Resident Director
BASIC FUNCTION
RD's serve as live-in professionals who play a critical role in the process of providing students with a holistic living/learning environment that is conducive to development in all aspects of life. A strong emphasis is placed on opportunities for growth in directions that support student mastery of the college's learning objectives as outlined in the mission statement. Within this context, RD's provide students with the tools they need to experience personal growth and help students create a sense of community.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with the Resident Assistants (RA's) to provide a challenging and supportive environment where students can live and learn.
Initiate contact with, become personally acquainted with, and be available to students as a resource, or for referral to other campus resources.
Identify student concerns within building/complex (100-140 students), and assist students in identifying options, choices, and methods for resolving problems and concerns concerning personal and campus issues. Provide information on community and campus agencies.
Intervene in a crisis situation, defining the emergency, and discerning when additional professional staff should be called for assistance and support.
Supervise RA's, providing guidance, assistance, feedback, and evaluation of performance.
Develop a Duty Schedule with RA's, schedule hall meetings, coordinate opening/closing of halls.
Monitor hall safety and security, reporting any breaches of either, as appropriate.
Maintain appropriate records for maintenance of the facility, including maintenance requests, room inventory, damage forms, key control, office equipment and supplies, laundry equipment, vending machines, etc.
Provide leadership to staff and students in the development of a community based upon the recognition of and consideration for the rights, property, privileges of all community members.
Communicate and carry out responsibilities according to institutional policies, procedures, and regulations, as outlined in the Code of Community Responsibility, encouraging students to share in the responsibility of enforcement. Provide direction for RA's in confrontation, intervention, and documentation of code violations.
Work with RA's to plan, develop, and implement programs that will enhance the co-curricular life in the hall/complex.

QUALIFICATIONS
-- Bachelor's degree, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
-- Availability to live in residence halls.
-- Availability for most evenings and some weekends, including all major event weekends.
-- Experience in residential life preferred.
