The Pacific Research Institute published an Economic Freedom Index for each state. New Hampshire was 7th.

Here is the data on New Hampshire:
Fiscal - 24th
Regulatory - 20th
Judicial - 50th 
Government - 1st 
Welfare - 12th

I think we had an earlier discussion on this, where I noted that judicial reform should be a priority. However, a closer look at the data today shows that the judicial ranking is the only one where economic freedom comes from a higher number. In other words, New Hampshire already has the best judicial ranking in the country:

One measurement of the success of homeporcs may be improvement in this and other freedom ratings over time. In this case, this would mean reduction in spending, regulation, and welfare

In looking at this index closely, I would surmise that the main thing NH could do to increase its ranking would be to adopt right-to-work legislation.

Why? The State doesn't force employers to sign contracts with unions.

If an employer doesn't want a closed shop -- just don't sign the damning contract.

It's that simple in New Hampshire.

Governing magazine also did a recent survey evaluating states in a variety of areas. New Hampshire
came out about average. Will try to get some info up soon on that.

 If a certain number of employees request a union vote, the Feds step in. If a majority of the employees want a union, then it becomes a closed shop, regardless of the desire of those employees who do not wish to be members of the union. Right to Work Laws allow workers the option of joining the union or not.

So, the State needs a Rigth to Work Law, to prevent the Fed's from stepping in and forcing unions on employers

Seem's to me like a "right to work" laws tends to push things the other extreme.

Oh well, I suppose if we havae to choose . . . .

I'd just prefer the government stayed out of the business of selling labor altogether. I suppose that's not really an option though as long as we're part of the empire though is it
