Awesome!!
You got people poting back and forth on a side thread, talking about the FSP. Truly, truly a Good Thing (tm)

If only that post had been moderated UP, more people would have seen it, and more would have joined in. That's where "gaming the system" comes in. The more of us Porcs who work this, the more likely one of us will have some Moderator points to use to get posts like yours visible to the masses.

So far I have: sethcohn and bookish_lass.
Any one of the three of us get moderator points, the others will get the benefit.

Come on, y'all: join in!
:)

Only if people's questions are answered... Someone wrote:

Reading further it says the vote was taken in August and September of 2003, which was almost a year ago; to have only gotten another 777 members in 9 months doesn't sound like anybody is going to be moving soon.
We need to address this better:  After the vote, lots of people were removed due to opt-out, and we've added many more than 777, so we need to make that clear.  Can someone make this happen?

I modded it up... but we need more people...

Hey guys, we need more people to help spread the word among slashdot users.  What to do:

set up an account at http://slashdot.org/ if you don't already have one.

Join our yahoo messenger network, add:
laugh_at_the_stars
sethcohn

bookish_lass

Post messages on slashdot (or do other things I don't understand but these other gents can explain) to get moderator points

When someone gets moderator points, they should change their status on yahoo messenger to "I have moderator points".  The rest of us will find a likely thread, post a hopefully related response about the FSP.  The person with the moderator points can then bump it up in importance so that many people will read it.

That's my sketchy understanding of it.  If there's more to it, I hope one of the more geeky among us will explain or correct me.

Re:  the thread I started on slashdot earlier, I answered the guys questions about onle getting 777 new members.  Wow, that got quite a few responses.  Great idea, guys!  This is working to get the word out.

Ok, I'll play along too. I post on Slashdot as Amiga Trombone. I haven't posted there in a while, but I used to have mod points almost constantly.

I don't use IM very often, but I'll keep you folks on my Slashdot Friends list, and if I notice you've posted anything, I'll give it a bump up.

I've had the FSP web site in my sig for quite some time. But I don't know how effective it's been directing people over here.

Hey, got another thread going on slashdot:

NEC admits to ripping off schools

Here was my reply:

I agree with the poster who questioned how the local government would be much superior to federal.  Any time you ask government to solve a problem that the free market can solve itself, you will find the problem solved inefficiently and often with corruption such as this article points out.  The reason is, an individual will be cautious with his own money and investments.  Government, which takes its wealth by force, is like a rich son who, not having to work for his money, squanders it thoughtlessly.

The Free State Project (http://www.freestateproject.org) proposes to take education out of the hands of government, precisely because it too important to be left to that rich philandering son, the state.  Already we have in place private means to fund schools in New Hampshire.  The Liberty Scholarship Fund (http://www.lsfund.org/) has been set up as a first step to providing privately funded alternatives to the public schools.

It's time to trim back government to its properly constitutional bounds.  It's time to take back our schools.  It's time to vote with our feet.

Live free or die!  New Hampshire!

I agree with the poster who questioned how the local government would be much superior to federal.  Kat Dillon

Richard Epstein stated (in a debate with Walter Block): "local govts are as oppressive as federal and state govts, if not more so." He goes on to cite some instances. (I heard it at: www.mises.org/Media/MediaContributor.asp#top)

The two above have been deleting my posts there which ask them if they are for sexual freedom or not.  You'd think since they are a gay site they would be into that but apparently they aren't into freedom of any kind.

I've just submitted the story to the editors at Slashdot. Let's see if they put it through to the site. You can try submitting the story at well, just go to http://slashdot.org/submit.pl

Thanks for the motivation, Dada!
