They moved it to the member only section.  There's a debate as to whether that's desirable or not.

I say not.  Heck, I am a member and I wasn't even told that it was moved.  Good thing I asked about it, cause otherwise I wouldn't have known!

If your going to do such a thing, at least inform the members you intend to reserve it for!

Where the heck is the members only section, anyway?

You have to have yourself identified as a member to see the Member's only section.    Go here:

https://freestateproject.org/members/index.jsp

and edit your member info...you'll find something in there that says to "Identify your forum profile as an "FSP Member".  Then you should be able to access the member's only section of the forum.

Our political strategy board contains sensitive information and tactics.  The press has visited and quoted from these forums before, and for that reason we need to take extra steps to protect the ones that discuss sensitive items.  As bookishlass points out, if you're a member it's easy to get access to the threads.

we need to move our publicity and activist center to member-only access. In the recent threading on SB 454, the Million Mom March was hyping my posts, and conflating my statements with Keith's statement advocating an open carry demonstration to try to scare the committee members with the idea that an armed group was going to take over the committee meeting. We need to keep our strategy discussions out of the hands of our political opponents.

Signing up as a member simply to get access to our private posts would be a fraudulent activity for a journalist.  This is not to say that some people (especially political enemies) will not do so, but anybody looking to use the information in the members section in an official capacity would have a hard time justifying how they got access.

Yes, if it came down to some sort of deposition or testimony of any kind, if an opponent testified they got our private discussions by fraudulently becoming a member, then their credibility as a witness would be impugned.

That may be the LEGAL aspect of it, but the practical, POLITICAL part is worth so much more--the power that people's livelihoods rely on!

If you notice, I don't have "FSP Member" on my posts.  Why?  I'm not a member.  Although, I will probably beat 95% of the members to New Hampshire, I'm not 100% certain, because of family (read: wife) responsibilities.  I could sign up and join in the private discussion, but I have scruples--others do not.

I'm a non-member for the same reason as nonluddite, basically, but I still like looking at the activities going on.  I even like to be active, myselft.  If you're going to move the activist center, could you make something similar for non-members?
