If the 3rd party is green/socialist etc....will you still vote 3rd party?
I live in Georgia. For those that don't know Georgia has the worst ballot access laws on the planet. The original purpose of the laws was to prevent communist from running. It also prevents other any 3rd parties from making the ballot. The rules are outrageous. Even if 20,000 freedom loving people moved here......
Anyway, i plan on voting against the more statist of the candidates, or writing in someone.

Well that’s a tough one for me Bladerunner since I’ve never seen an anarchist party.  I guess I’ll just have to vote for the lesser of two weevils.  It’s either that or write-in Mickey Mouse for governor.

I dissagree, I don't think they are the same I think they are people who are mad about stuff but they don't know what and don't really have any idea how to fix it.  They are extremely lacking in any kind of higher level intellectual rationalization.  So they eat what the esblishment feeds them, and protest with a pure heart and an empty head.  Their battle cry is not to help people as they think it is but, sadly, only to demand more and more control from the only thing that can truly make them slaves, the only thing that can take your money, your freedom, tell you what to do, what to say, the government. Because they have been fed to believe it, the enemy to them is somehow Pizza Hut and McDonnalds.  These people would sacrafice their freedom to get rid of a few bad food chains.

There is some truth in what you write, however I do think the externalities of pollution and environmental degradation brought about by industrial activities is a legitimate concern. That the Green program of supporting environmental regulation by the Feds is the answer is certainly debatable, but libertarians need to offer concrete alternative mechanisms to balance the right of an industrialist to get rid of  factory effluent  with the rights of downstream property owners to have a clean river. I'd be interested in any libertarian books or essays addressing some of the issues of pollution and destruction of the commons.

Interestingly, the Green Party nominee for Governor in CA, Peter Camejo said that he believed in the Second Amendment right to of individuals to bear arms, though he wanted regulation within that context. This was an explicit endorsement of the 2nd amendment that you would never hear from the majority of urban or state level CA Democrats.

I am making a compromise in this issue.  From 1992 until 3 months ago I was registered and voted LP.  We have a very weak LP in Arizona and so I decided to split my ticket and try to help Arizona to stay out of the hands of the ultra-Liberals.  We have a woman running for Governor who was Anita Hill's attorney and I'll be damned if I will not vote for the only candidate who could take her out of the race!

My vote will be placed for Matt Salmon who was a pretty good Congressman and voted very LPish when he was in office.

For some reason the LP can't get a list of good Libertarians here in AZ and will need some heavy-duty work to get organized.  I'm voting about half LP and half GOP.  I am also voting for all the gambling Indian issues and to allow medical marijuana!  this will be my first national vote in Arizona and hopefully it will be done without the usual fraud found in other states.

Why I’ll Never Vote Again

by Rob Moody

"Why do statists care so much about voter turnout? Because the higher the voter turnout, the more legitimacy the State has."

the rest of the article can be read at: http://www.lewrockwell.com/moody/moody28.html

An other aricle

The Moral Outrage of Voting
by John Lopez

"You, who so proudly voted for "Liberty". No matter which candidate you endorsed, by voting in that public election, you implicitly affirmed your approval of the process that allows your liberty to be stripped from you. Moreover, you endorsed not only your own slavery, but the slavery of everyone else as well. You willingly, under no compulsion or coercion, decided that your inalienable rights as a human being were to be given over to a small collection of people to be disposed of as they see fit. In effect, you said that you have a vague preference for one set of masters, but that you will accept whatever set of owners the process produces for you. "

The rest of the article can be found at:
http://www.webleyweb.com/tle/libe186-20020812-04.html

That just about sums up my feeling on voting!  :P

My father always said that when you vote you give your rights to make decisions for yourself to another person. Worse still you give those rights to a politician, a person who doesn't know you and will lie, cheat and knowingly deceive in the persuit of power.

I would put the counter argument that force has created more issues than it has resolved.

For every use of violence to solve a problem there results a new problem in its place.

Did violence on the part of the english allow them to keep their Indian empire?

I preferred the book to the film. Although it did a good job of portraying the stupidity of most people. Rewatch the film and substitute 'bugs' for 'terrorists' and you will see how shockingly close to the truth it gets.

We are stuck with it till we evolve as a species.

indeed and until then we are stuck with 'do to others as you would have done to yourself' :)

Heard rumors they were gonna do Stranger as a movie, and I hope they do and I hope they don't. Like FH's Dune, it would have to be very long (exceeding the attention span of the majority) or it misses too much which is required to convey the subtle aspects.

Like all book to movie adaptations if it is done well (by someone who understands the subject matter) then it will be good (see Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Awesome book, Awesome film) but if it is done by someone who doesn't understand then it will be awful.

I hope its good, Stranger is one of my favourite books and although I disagree with him on some aspects of politics he definately makes great sci-fi :)

Heh, excellent! CatBorg just said also watch the commercials they inject, and during which, what they censor and what they don't. An amusing set of values.

Yeah. The "kids do your part" bit with the bug squashing makes me laugh every time :)
