How much should I save to make the move?
« on: March 15, 2015, 03:53:07 pm »

Hey everyone. I signed the FSP statement of intent back in 2011 and I think I'm ready to start getting ready to make the move since my home state of Colorado is turning into a socialist hell hole. My question is, how much should I expect to spend/save to move from Colorado to the Shire? I'm a 23 year old single dude and I don't have a whole lot of stuff to drag with me, I could probably fit all of my stuff in a uhaul trailer. What other expenses or logistics issues can I expect? Also, I work for Comcast so does anyone know if Comcast has any call centers in the Shire?

More.

Seriously, there are always unexpected or unforeseen expenses beyond what you planned for. That's true whether you're buying a house, or just moving across the country with all your belongings in one car.

Three months' worth of living expenses would be a bare minimum, unless you can hit the ground running and work any job that comes up.

Jobs are crazy easy to get here. Nevertheless, I agree. 3 months living expenses is a good idea.

By crazy do you mean that it is hard, or very niche specific jobs.

"Crazy easy" = "very easy" but a more correct way to say it would have been "wicked easy" ;D

We have the lowest unemployment rate in the East again this month. A border state has the 2nd lowest unemployment rate in the East. Folks are complaining that there aren't enough people looking for jobs in NH. https://freestateproject.org/blogs/under-4-new-hampshire-has-lowest-unemployment-rate-east

I have made several very large moves, all successful. I abide by 3 months and 150% rules. Calculate your expenses for the move and three months of unemployment, then multiply that by 1.5.
