"Liberty 911" test run - May 6-10
« on: May 02, 2013, 03:20:16 am »

Some of you may be familiar with an idea I have for a new form of NH activism.  I call it  "Liberty 911."  It's not the souped-up version of Porcupine411.com that some have discussed. The idea, in its pure form, is to have a well provisioned RV....perhaps stationed the Manchester area, ready to roll toward NH liberty crises. It would carry lots of communication/media devices, protest equipment, humanitarian aid, shelter and 2-3 activists with complimentary skill sets.

I did a video series about the idea here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hStPW4Bf0LA

I'm going to go ahead and implement a version of the idea small enough that I can theoretically do it alone..though others can help.

I only have a small car. I'm going to take that car, remove unneeded valuables from it and from my person, then load it with old communication/media gear, protest equipment, humanitarian aid.   Then from May 6-10 I will try to go "on call" 24 hours per day.  I'll start monitoring Porc 411 more closely, plus other outlets.  I'll have a phone on with several people directed to call me if they notice a request for my help.  I expect to base in Bedford, partly because that's fairly central to population and activity.

I encourage NH folk, especially activists, to contact me if they want my help with something then. For example: A surprise government meeting, an inappropriate arrest for victimless crimes, questionable / large scale police activity in a given location.  One man can only do a bit to stem the authoritarian tide.  But I'll respond as fast as practical on a case by case basis.  Some requests I might respond to by driving to the location, some by requesting help from third parties, some by interacting electronically and others by simply directing the request elsewhere.   Some I will refuse to respond to at all, i.e. requests that are not NH related.  I might take action with a camera, snap-protest alone outside a jail, jump-start a vehicle, set up a Facebook page for a related event or deliver a tool to a construction project.

A lot depends on how far away you are from Bedford and the wildly varying circumstances which might or might not unfold.  Remember that I will have to say no as much as I say yes...one person can only do so much.  However I'll load the vehicle out for as many contingencies as possible. Even if an emergency happens that's not freedom related...I'm already on call so I'll try to have some degree of conventional disaster readiness.  That type of problem is a lot less likely to happen and less likely to lend itself to my presence, but this can't hurt.   So...while I'll have a Gadsden flag and sign making gear, I'll probably also throw a fire extinguisher and disaster kits into the machine.

I'm a ham operator also and would like to use the excuse to improve my weak skills there.  So every night I will try to do a test check-in at 8:45 p.m. on the Bedford repeater.  If I can't reach the repeater for some reason I may see if someone else can check in on my behalf or deliver a message to that repeater....this will be good disaster practice.

This project has several goals:

1) Reduce response time in reaction to freedom-related crises.
2) Generate increased buzz and freedom activity
3) Learn more about how this sort of thing might work
4) Create additional deterrent "Last time we tried to do something like this, one of those free staters showed up THE SAME DAY with a camera, and it turned into a PR mess!"
5) Inspire other folks to do something similar.
6) Generate enough donations to cover all expenses.

Here's how you can get involved and some items I'm not planning on buying but could make use of:

Extra cell phone to which I can give out the number publicly.
Someone who can monitor Porc 411 that week and call me with reports of activity there.
Someone who can fill in for me as the "on call" person while I'm out on a call.
Someone who I can call with as-yet-unforeseen requests.

If the project meets with your approval and you want to see it stay active, you can donate:
My Bitcoin addie is at  http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=23375.0
Contact me via RidleyReport.com or Facebook the appropriate Dave Ridley to let me know you've contributed, to contribute in a different way or to volunteer.  And thanks!

Although I don't go on call for another 2 days, the 411 call which came in on May 3 may be relevant to the project.  I'm not spun up to full availability yet but am responding by emailing the hospital in question:

Dear folks at St. Joseph's:

My name's Dave Ridley...I'm an indie reporter in the area.  There is a man who says he's at Nashua's St. Joseph in rehab room 412.  He says he's a recent amputee, that he asked for pain medication and that in response to his requests one of your security officers is threatening to arrest him.   He specifies that the officer is threatening to perform the arrest himself, although police are allegedly being called as well.   He has already broadcast his concerns to the public.

I know you can't tell me much about a private citizen or their medical situation, and so far this is obviously just one side of the story.  But does your hospital have arrest powers?  Have you called police to the building in the last 48 hours in relation to that room or that unit?    And...what happens next?  I assume you're a private hospital, but obviously police involvement, or an actual arrest, would make this the public's business.  Also does your hospital receive any government grants?  Again I'm trying to determine the extent to which this is or isn't a private matter.

I want to be up front with you that I will publish or record any responses from you and that a lack of response would be regarded as a cause for concern and additional attention.  I will attempt to contact the patient in the next day or two; if I'm unable to do so then that also would be a source of concern.

Thanks....

LOL one of the people who responded on facebook as "attenting" is an Iraqi living IN Iraq, another is a cute female soldier in Nigeria.   Not sure how we all wound up as facebook friends....  I did message them both just to say "wow."

I have about 4 people helping me now and will try to explain that shortly.

OK here are the folks participating in the trial run so far; some have given me leave to post their names and/orpublic contact info.  Now hopefully each of you can contact each other directly...in some cases.  I've tried to set up a division of labor and give each job a sexy title lol.

"Primary:"  Me, Dave Ridley.  Dude nominally in charge and most likely to respond in person.
Public contact info: https://www.facebook.com/ridleyreport?fref=ts
http://RidleyReport.com
KB1WMQ on Ham Radio (I'll try to check the Bedford repeater 8:45 each night during exercises like this and real emergencies).
Or leave a message at Porcupine 411:  413-0411

"Secondary" -  Garret from FreeConcord.org.  He'll be what you might call the XO or Veep during this process.  Contact him if you can't reach me during the test.  When I go unavailable, he's in charge.
Public contact info: http://FreeConcord.org or http://YouTube.com/FreeConcordTV

"Monitor" - Brian Lobb. He's keeping an eye on Porc 411 for aid requests or news items that would lend themselves to my involvement. He'll alert me by phone when he sees them, and he'll see some things before I do.  He'll also monitor the status of the project via this thread.
Public contact info:  https://www.facebook.com/brian.lobb.9 - FB messages go to his phone.
www.libertania.com
www.brianlobb.com

"UberMonitor:"  Menno Troyer.  He'll monitor the same as Brian while also monitoring my news aggregator. His public contact info:
Public contact info:  Phone: 701-934-2636
Facebook: Menno Troyer

"E-sponder" - I have two folks who have volunteered to help me post things to the net, or look things up for me on the net, or make phone calls...when I can't.  Basically doing electronic stuff when I can't.  I'm not clear yet on whether I can name them or provide any public contact info for them.   If you're one of them please let me know what I *can* say about you since you're kind of a black hole if no one but me knows who you are.

Update:  SouthernPatriot is now publicly one of the E-sponders and may operate as an Outpost.  He's willing to assist with calls in Cheshire County, assuming he's not asleep, at work or on the radio.  He says he's available to make phone calls or post info online.  He can be contacted via phone/text 202-709-4377 or via email (which goes to his phone)  - editor (at) FPP (dot) cc

The second E-sponder is Japhet; that's now public...like Darryl he has also expressed an interest in playing Outpost.  I don't have any contact info I can post for him yet but, some of you will already know how to reach him.

"Outpost" - Both of the E-sponders above have on their own volunteered to possibly respond in person, in situations where I can't.

Ideally if I get bogged down on calls or deepsleep, the "structure" and these much-appreciated volunteers can hold things together.

Many hand, light work make!

In case it wasn't obvious from some of the previous posts I'm kinda low tech when it comes to accessing the net... I can't do it over my phone.

I've not received a response from the hospital regarding my e-mail above regarding the patient who called us for help.   However I contacted the patient, John Brady (spelling not verified).   He's out of that place now, and the situation seems to have calmed down except THIS:

I asked John if they really did sic the police on him.  He said cops DID show up and confronted him.  I asked if he got any video or audio of this...he said when he tried to wheel over to his cell phone, they stopped him!

Since St. Jo is in Nashua, I'm assuming this was the Nashua police department.

Here, then, is the power of at least TRYING to get video and/or trying to broadcast the cops on Porc 411.  Instead of this being a matter of who gets pain medication, now it has become a question of police censorship.   In other words John now has at least a stronger allegation to level, than he would otherwise.  He's indicated to me that he has 2 witnesses and I've asked him to have them contact me with corroboration.  I interviewed John over the phone about this and may run the interview a little later.  Either here or on the Ridley Report itself.

In a society with press freedom, I'd call authorities to verify the report above.  And I would record the whole interaction. But in the America we actually live in, various wiretapping laws have a chilling effect on such calls.  In protest of these laws, I generally deny bureaucrats that type of opportunity to present their views by phone.  It does save me time.  But I will tend to waive this boycott and make the call if a bureaucrat reahes out and agrees to be recorded.  And I look forward to the repeal of the laws that have limited open communication with our rulers.

I have in incomcing request from a Russian immigrant with concerns about the child protective bureaucracy.  That's in-progress; stand by for details... It is not time sensitive and may not involve travelling anywhere.

I watch for porc 411 from about 6am-10pm and nothing came across on my e-mail or podcast links to it so far since yesterday.

Well that was boring uneventful  ;D

I have been monitoring Porc 411 and the news aggregator as requested, whenever I got a chance to be online (at least daily, usually several times daily). Nothing came up that struck me as fitting with the objectives of this project.

Is this going forward as a permanent program, Dave?

I am not sure how my internet connectivity will be after today, as I am on the move.  Also, I am seeking work in an industry that is notorious for long hours and tiring work, so that may negatively affect my future availability.

Otherwise, I am up for continuing in the current capacity.  I will just have to see how things play out over the next week or so.

Thanks guys for all the help!  Ya, nothing happened.  It was opposite of what I expected...I thought we'd have too much demand and too little capability.
