FLORIDA (or part) could be easy
« on: August 25, 2002, 08:45:45 am »

Florida has a unique state constitution amendment process that enables the state constitution to be amended by any group that collects signatures petitioning for an amendment to be put to a vote.  It would be easy to officially register and start collecting signatures proposing a Florida
constitutional amendment to make Florida (or a small part of Florida. e.g. The Conch Republic idea in Key West) the "Free State Project" state, or even to put Florida secession to a statewide vote by official state
constitutional amendment announcing secession. Depending on the part of Florida selected, it might gain statewide support from the rest of the state.

I lived in Miami and Homestead for a few years.  There is not enough room to move to the Keys, nor are housing prices low enough for most of us.  Also there's the job situation--almost non-existant, and it can take up to 3 hours (more if there's an accident) to get to and from downtown Miami if you live in the Keys.  Plus the Keys are being overtaken by liberals.  The idea of the Conch Republic has become a joke.  Sad.

so what part of Florida do you think would be best?  There are lots of choices. Thanks.

Panhandle, by all means. A pretty independent lot we are.

Parts of states are not under consideration by the FSP -- only whole states. The reasoning is discussed on the website here: http://www.freestateproject.org/faqs.htm

After yet another voting fiasco, I suspect the rest of Florida would gladly give up Broward County to anyone who's willing to take it!  ;D
