Visiting to scout locations in Mid-May
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:17:05 pm »

Howdy everyone!

This will kind-of serve as an intro post, and a request for suggestions.

My wife and I are committed to getting out of CA and moving to NH in early 2012. She is an Architect, and I do tech work. We have a scouting trip planned for May 12-19 to check out locations in NH. Basically, we need to figure out the lay of the land, figure the general areas where we should focus our search for work and housing, and meet some locals (and introduce ourselves).

My wife had written down Manchester and Nashua as kind of a starting point. Not having been to NH yet, I'm hoping that we can get some guidance on places to check out.Any ideas/recommendations? We're excited to come and be part of the FSP movement, and the NH ideals, and to get involved!

Thanks!

Manchester, Nashua, Salem, Derry or any of the towns that border any of those towns/cities.  If you don't mind a longer commute, you might want to look into Concord, Dover, Portsmouth or any of the towns that border any of those towns/cities.

Renting in Manchester, Nashua, Salem or Derry seems like a good start, though.

Yeah.  Get out of California!  :)

I hope to do a scouting trip by this Summer.  I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what suggestions you get.

I just joined this forum and read your post.  I'm also originally from California (although I haven't lived there in years) and my husband and I hope to move from NC to NH within the next 5 years.  My mother, who moved to California in 1960 and just passed away last year, never could understand why we didn't want to move back there.  Things like onerous business regulations, ridiculously high taxes, "nanny state" policies, and the dominance of extreme leftist political beliefs just didn't register on her radar screen.  In a way it's a shame, because California has such variety and natural beauty, but the majority that rules has just ruined the state.

Interestingly enough, we're also going to make a brief scouting trip to NH the same time you are in May.  We'll be in the Hanover area so I don't think our paths will cross, but I hope you have a good visit and will post your impressions on this board.

The NH legislature will be in session -- want your mind blown? Come see a legislative hearing where Free Staters are among the actual legislators.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days for this free, educational, inspirational experience.

Post on http://forum.nhliberty.org and let folks know when you can be at the State House in Concord. Or shoot me a PM, I'll be happy to show you around.

The Senate hearing for HB 648 http://www.nhliberty.org/bills/view/2011/HB648 (relative to eminent domain petitions by public utilities) is going to be in Representative's Hall on May 19th.  That should be good for some excitement.

Well,  the wife and I are in Manchester currently, will be up in Concord on Saturday, and then off towards Portsmouth on Sunday. I would really like to be there, but we are headed out of NH before the 19th -- I posted the dates wrong. It's a shame, I would have really liked to be there for HB648 hearing.

If there is anyone that is in the local area and wants to show us around, drop me a PM.

Thanks-

will be up in Concord on Saturday

This should be the day of the meeting for the Concord Porcs group.  As of March, meeting was:

12 Noon
Sunshine Oriental
121 Loudon Rd.
Concord

Bottled beers $2.50-3.25 each
Wine $4/glass
Lunch plates all day: $5.50-$7.25 includes free drink & pork fried rice
Dinner plates all day: $8-9 includes pork fried rice & choice of soup

I haven't seen an email go out for this month, nor is there a website for this group.   So maybe someone can confirm before you head there.

We were planning on attending, as we'll be in Concord anyway.

Can anyone confirm that the meeting is indeed occurring?
