Considering visiting this summer
« on: June 01, 2010, 11:23:16 pm »

I've been looking at the Free State Project for a few months now and I'm becoming extremely interested. I'm 20 year old college student studying economics. I would like come up to visit with some Free Staters and see if this is something I could actually do. Is there anyone who could point me in the direction of places to stay and people to meet? I'm coming up from Chattanooga, Tennessee, so I want my visit to be worth the drive. I'd love anyone's feedback on this.

Thanks,

You didn't say when you were planning on visiting this summer. If you can make it during Porcfest, June 24-27, there will be a lot of people gathered in one place. If by Free Staters, you mean people who already moved, you can visit and travel around the state and meet them any time, although you would have a hard time meeting as many as during Porcfest. If you are including Free State Project signers who have not moved yet, Porcfest is the best time to meet us (I am one, still in Utah but will be visiting for Porcfest this year).

I'll let the early movers and NH natives etc answer your questions about places to stay and visit, as my only past experiences in NH were just driving through from Maine to somewhere else.

I'm wondering what kind of economics you're being taught. Is it statist /government-worshipping or is it more positive about free markets?

It helps if we hear a bit more from you before you show up asking about crash space. It may go against your grain, but try to be chatty and by the time you get here, there will all kinds of options for your visit.

Welcome to the forum.  If you cannot make it to Porcfest ( http://www.freestateproject.org/festival/ ) for some reason, you could always attend the Live Free or Die Rally.  While Porcfest is longer, has more profreedom folks, more activities and gives you a much better overall view of NH, they are both great events.  Live Free or Die Rally if a free (although donations are asked for and excepted) weekend long event that includes a lot of NH related stuff and camping.  http://livefreeordierally.com/

So yeah, I recommend Porcfest.  If you cannot make that, I recommend Live Free or Die Rally.  If you cannot make that, just look at some of the area liberty calendars ( http://www.nhlibertycalendar.org/ , http://calendar.freekeene.com/ and http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=f3b9bdc1a81ede372f0b7410ff51d403&action=calendar ) and decide for yourself when is a good time.  If you come to the Keene area, I'll try to show you around.

There is a Welcome Wagon section of the FSP website, if that helps, http://www.freestateproject.org/visitnh

I'm being taught statist, pro-Fed, "debt doesn't matter" economics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, but I'm not taking my professors' bait. I'm a libertarian who is interested in the many benefits of real capitalism and concerned about the always destructive and sometimes creepy intrusion of government.

I don't think there is any way I could make it up in June. It looks like mid-July would be the only time I could visit, although I may rearrange my schedule and try to attend the Live Free or Die Rally.

I know a libertarian teacher at the school.  I'll message you his info.
