Great idea for libertarians
« on: February 14, 2010, 10:50:13 pm »

You know what I've always found kind of funny? All those conspiracy theorists with all those theories about freemasons and the skull and bones and knights templar and what have you. The sort of crap that fuels crazy movies like Eyes Wide Shut. You ever seen that? How freakin' weird was that? That whole scene in the mansion with the crazy religious ritual and the huge orgy. I mean what the hell is the point of all that? I mean it just makes me laugh.

But these sorts of things gave me an idea. The freemasons were originally a liberal (in the classical sense, and what we'd now might call libertarian) brotherhood. They're also the source of many conspiracy theories. So I say, let's put two and two toegether, and start some secret society of libertarians where we have huge orgies in mansions wearing masks. I know it sounds weird at first, but just let the idea sink in. The left/socialist side of the political spectrum hates us anyway, and they inevtiably ascribe everything that they hate to conspiracies by corporations (for example, the Martens' have already done this) - so why don't we pre-emptively indulge their fantasies for our own amusement? We can laugh at how ridiculous the left has become by playing the evil villains, starting rumors that we're trying to take over the world and such, but at the same time, we'd have an excuse for hosting orgies (and an in-road for trying to get our wives to swing).

So waddya say? Anybody know some free-stater with a huge, elegant mansion? Oh, and if anybody needs renaissance-style opera masks, I can provide those.

Some of us were doing exactly that thirty+ years ago.  Start by reading Illuminatus! (a sweeping three-book novel in which all the then-extant conspiracy theories turn out to be true), and take it from there.  If you have any questions after that, you know where to find me.  And you can be certain that we know where to find you . . . !  BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-

The first rule of secret libertarian groups is don't talk about secret libertarian groups.  >:D

That's just for the secret libertarian groups.  For the secret secret libertarian groups, the rule is to release true statements alongside absurd rumors, and that way, both will be disbelieved.
