Porcfest writeup
« on: June 20, 2008, 02:28:53 pm »

Hey there,

I had a lot of fun for my short Porcfest stay.  I blogged about it here: http://darianworden.com/blog/?p=17

Hope to see you in '09 or maybe sooner.

It was great meeting you and drawing you, Darian. I see you're contemplating a move. What would it take to convince you?

I've got some things holding me in NJ right now.  I'm working on it.

On the way to PorcFest, I read Free Stater and former New Jersey resident Evan Nappen's book "The Declaration."  My comment to my wife after I finished the first few chapters was, "how does anyone live in a state like that?"

NJ is similar to CA in that it has a sort of exit tax for home owners. If you aren't moving to another address in the same state, you get an extra tax on the sale of your home. No, I'm not kidding. It's not quite the Berlin wall, but damn.

Don't think I'll be moving this year but I'll remember the offer.  Thanks.

NJ has taxes on anything imaginable.  There is a lot of money to steal and the state is small enough that people who can't afford to live well here can often move to PA, provided they aren't stuck in some ghetto.

I wonder if the NJ State Police is looking into PA from the hilltops to catch people with Jersey plates buying fireworks like they did last year around this time.  Anything for power.

I'll definitely be at Porcfest next year.  Hopefully with my girlfriend.
