Have your pic taken with the Anarchy Boogie-man @ Porcfest
« on: April 23, 2008, 06:02:08 pm »

So to speak, anyway. People have been persistently urging me to have a table at this year's Porcfest. I finally gave in and decided that as long as I have to sit at the table, I should make myself useful. So, here's your chance to become digitally immortalized into the Anarchy In Your Head world. I thought of those people who do caricatures of you at fairs and what not and decided to do something similar but with a modern twist. Take a look at today's blog entry for details.

Nice. Try not to use straight quotes (' ") though.

Is that just based on font choice? Otherwise, not sure how to control that.

Is that just based on font choice? Otherwise, not sure how to control that.

They’re separate characters. Some editors try to guess if you mean an open or close quote depending on context, which works 90% of the time but is also why you’ll see stuff like ‘em or ‘08. It thought you were opening a single-quoted quotation, not trying to type an apostrophe.

I’ve mapped right alt plus the brackets to print them for me. Ubuntu probably has a way to do this already, if not, create a new file ~/.xmodmaprc with the following in it:—

Code: [Select]
keycode 113 = Mode_switch

keysym bracketleft = bracketleft braceleft leftdoublequotemark rightdoublequotemark
keysym bracketright = bracketright braceright leftsinglequotemark rightsinglequotemark

You can load that file with `xmodmap - < ~/.xmodmaprc`, or if that doesn’t seem to work, restart X. It should result in the following:—
  Alt+[  “
  Shift+Alt+[  ”
  Alt+]  ‘
  Shift+Alt+]  ’

If that didn’t seem to work, check that your right alt key really is keycode 113 by running `xev` and looking at the output while pressing the key up and down. It should look something like this:—

Code: [Select]
KeyRelease event, serial 29, synthetic NO, window 0x4400001,
    root 0x44, subw 0x0, time 2134397688, (-726,624), root:(275,671),
    state 0x2010, keycode 113 (keysym 0xff7e, Mode_switch), same_screen YES,
    XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 93
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XFilterEvent returns: False

If you see a different number there, then your right alt is that, not 113.

This is also useful in ~/.xmodmaprc, so you can type en- and em-dashes:—

Code: [Select]
keysym minus = minus underscore endash emdash

The gentleman next to the "boogieman" sure looks like the popular, handsome "Freemarketeer", Ian Bernard.  Is that intentional, or just a happy anarcho-coincidence?

Another sample that I added to the blog post. He didn't want to wait until Porcfest for a shirt.

I've always wanted abs and pecs like that!  No more gym for me . . . I'm going to Dale for the physique I desire.

I'm planning to have some body architypes to speed things along but they can be tweaked a little with proportions, colors, etc.. The totally ripped body is going to be an option. :)

I just realized I totally forgot the porcupine version especially for Porcfest! Here it is.

Mark Edge(ington)?

No. A guy out in Utah. Not a bad guess though.

Yep. I didn't think many people here know who Landon is though.
