I've been following the project for a few months now... my boyfriends brother is moving and got me involved. I love the idea of it and I am planning on the move myself but my problem is I just bought a house in RI in October. So my main concern is being able to sell my house for a profit and relocate with a job and place to live.  I also have 2 dogs and 2 cats so renting will be a little difficult.  I am planning it... just not sure when.

I just signed up on this forum today because...I'm moving. I will probably be in NH within the 4-6 week range. I'm not much of a forum person, but I figured I'd get on here when it got closer to my projected moving time. And that, I thought, was going to be the summer of 2008.

I'll be giving notice on Monday. I've been packing boxes to put in storage. I will cash out my 401k, otherwise I won't be able to make the move.

I don't know where I'm going. I have no idea what part of the state to move to, much less what town.

I don't know where I'm going to work. Currently I'm a blackjack floor supervisor and there are no casinos in NH. Not that I want to continue working in a casino...

So. This is it.  It's finally happening!

Good to hear!  Let us know when you move so we can update the counter.  It's a big encouragement to us to see the counter move.

There's alot of information in the NH Info page. Hope it helps.

Thank you!

I have a question about my status as a Free State Project member.

I've been following the Free State Project since before a state was chosen. I was very interested, but couldn't conceive of ever leaving Arizona. There were too many things holding me here at the time. Of course, things change and that's why I'm able to do this right now.

I signed the First 1000 pledge in December. Mostly I did it as an act of faith, that somehow things would work out so I could move by the end of 2008. I made the assumption at the time that signing that pledge also signed me up as a Free State Project member. Is that true, or is there something else I need to do?

Hey Ibedi,

You also need to sign the Statement of Intent (SOI).  That's the form that actually makes you a participant.  The first 1,000 didn't make you a participant; it's a separate commitment.  You can sign up here: http://www.freestateproject.org/user/register?type=Participant&tabs=hidden

Note that your forum username is SEPARATE from you signing the SOI (though you can choose the same username if you wish, one doesn't automatically sign you up for the other).

Then when you move, let us know and we'll update your status so that the counter moves.  PM me or post if you have any questions. :)

Ibedi:—

Once you’ve signed the SOI, you can go over to https://secure.freestateproject.org/ in order to connect your FSP membership account with your forum account. It also appears that the SOI form that sjhipple gave you asks for a password but is not available over secure HTTP >:(, so once you do sign up, go over to https://secure.freestateproject.org/ to change your password.

Welcome aboard!  ;D

My suggestion is to rent with one of the Porc landlords for a little while, and tour the state. I know there's places in Manchester and Concord, I rent to Porcs in Deerfield, there's a place on Hampton Beach (I stayed there for a year while building my place) and there's at least one such place in the works in the Keene area.

We plan on leasing our current place here in northern Virginia for another year, once our current lease expires next March. We're staying in the area for now because we make decent salaries and we're making progress on paying down some of our old debts. (We're spending our 30s paying off our 20s.) This way, when we get to NH, we can relax and won't be as driven by work concerns about where to live.

That may not be such a concern for me, though. The last time I posted to the boards, I hated my job here. I've since found another job that's pretty darn good, and I'm trying to figure out a way to hang on to it after I move, mainly because jobs in my field (I'm a copy editor) are pretty scarce, and the ones that do come along either don't pay well or have crummy hours. My company does employ lots of contractos who work remotely from all around the country. I've talked to my boss about it, and she thinks it's doable, but it would ultimately be an HR call. Fingers crossed. Fortunately, they love my work here, so I think the company will do what it can to keep me. My wife, meanwhile, is an accountant, and everybody needs accountants. So I think, in terms of jobs, we'll be in pretty good shape.

It's funny ... the last time I posted here, I mentioned that I was planning to be in NH at the end of '04. Now we're looking at March '09. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans, right? But we are coming! Just a little later than expected.

ibedi, good to hear you're moving. If you can give local porcs a heads up, they might be able to help you move in.

Check out www.newhampshireunderground.com it's a good place to network with porcs already in the state as far as jobs, place to stay, etc.

Hope to see you soon!

It seems like there's momentum building as far as movers, which is a very good thing. It's nice to know that people meant it when they signed the F1K.

Awesome! There are a few of us in No.VA.  I'm in Alexandria and I know a First 1,000 signer who's around here too.

Yeah...can't wait to start paying off MY loans...not

I'm in Alexandria, too! Sweet! This area would drive anyone to become a libertarian.

There are definitely a few around here. I work two desks away from a guy who came in one say with a bright yellow Frisbee. It had the FSP porcupine on it! Small world.

I figured this thread is as good a place as any to announce that I have just made the move -- last week, just in time for PorcFest.  I'm staying in Winchester for now, so I will be plugged into the wonderful Keene group.  Yesterday, I attended a rally on the statehouse steps in Concord along with other Porcupines to protest a bad piece of legislation that was up for a vote.  Feels great to finally be here and getting active!  To all of you contemplating the move, all I can say is, 'Get here as fast as you can!'

Hi Menno! Great fun hanging out with you at Porcfest.

Porcfest pushed me over the hump. I signed the pledge a while back but was contemplating an earlier move. I'm looking into rooms now and just trying to decide which part to move to. It will be either Keene or Nashua or Portsmouth probably. Hard to find a room in Keene though. It's just a smaller place and not as many options.
