Do you have any NH employment ideas for someone who will soon (May-September 07) complete a Ph.D. in Mathematics?

I'm applying to Dartmouth.  If I didn't get an academic position, I might try to do quantitative analysis.

quantitative analysis.
What field? There's quite a bit of financial work in Manchester, or worst-case you could live in Derry and commute to Boston.

After having lived through youth and seen many others, I really think most people look at their choices backwards. It should be "where can I best live the life I want to live" and not "where can I do what I am being trained to do?" What kind of life is it if you are among people who don't support you and work aggressively against your right to live according to your own principles? Most people don't end up working in their field anyway. Don't wait for life to shove you into a notch that is not of your choosing.

Make your own stand and make your own life.

Cathleen, more eloquently than I ever could, put some of what I was thinking into her post.  How much bucks do you want or need to make.  If you don't look and act like my 5th grade teacher, Miss Crotty, and you are enthusiastic about math,  how about teaching at a private school?  One nice family moved to NH and settled in Epson due to the Montessori school there.

Lloyd,

I was thinking about private school.  Also if there is a strong home school environment in your fine state, I was wondering if parents hire trained people to help with the education.  If I was to home school I would want to hire someone for English teaching help.  I would like to make anything over $40K and I'm not sure if private school would pay that.

Denis,

I think I would enjoy the financial quantitative analysis.

Cathleen,

My worry is that there won't be any work for me.  I'm afraid to move without knowing I will have income.

My personal opinion is that it's a bad idea to move without knowing that you have a job when you get there; particularly if you have the training and background to be able to do things like "quantitative analysis!"

Do check the NH Jobs board, relentlessly:
http://www.freestateproject.org/nhinfo/Jobs.php/

Getting a job is not easy no matter what. It always requires a lot of work and dedication, especially on those days where the last 10 places you called turned you down. But ya gotta soldier on
