Insane thread resurrection
« on: June 14, 2006, 04:29:14 am »

Hello all.  I truly admire what I see and read here.  FSP sounds like a positive thing for sure.  A bit about me:  Just relocated back east from Arizona, another bastion of freedom I must say.  Wife couldn't bear to be from family so now I live in Rhode Island.  Place is a joke.  What it lacks in size it makes up for in corruption.  People here accept it/don't mind it.  I have to get out.  Wife is fed up with job situation here, she has an aunt that lives in NH, she has applied for jobs there, it's close enough to visit her parents, so we shall see.  My main issue is 2nd amendment.  I recently was denied a concealed carry permit by the Attorney General's office here.  After years of gun freedom in AZ you can imagine my frustration.  Even worse, I live in Providence with the gay, rabid anti gun Mayor so I can't approach the town for a permit, which is shall issue by the way.  The locals tell me I don't have a prayer.  Just fed up.  I knew it wouldn't be like AZ but never expected the level of socialist, elitist, connected culture that it is.  Apparently people just vote for Patrick Kennedy (state rep) because they like having their own Kennedy, not making this up, it's like part of the folklore around here.  Anyway, New Hampshire appears to be gun friendly enough for me.  I hope the wife and I can get jobs up there though, we are both educators although I hope to be fulltime coach someday.

Again, I like what FSP is about.  Live Free or Die is an awesome motto.  Can't say I would look forward to the brutal winters but hey have to take good with the bad I suppose.

I'm mostly just here reading posts but wanted to say hello and hope to join soon.

Hello jrafe!

Since you're on the East Coast, you really might want to check out PorcFest. It's a great way to meet those of us who have already moved, those who are planning to move, and to see what we've accomplished already.

I also recommend having a look at the Keene Free Press Massachusetts Edition. The KFP was started by two early-movers to New Hampshire, Russ and Kat. The Massachusetts edition of their paper is fairly applicable to states other than MA, since NH is pretty much surrounded by Socialist "paradises" like Maine, Vermont -- and RI is similar to those places in it politics!

One last thing, you may want to check the forum at NH Free, a vibrant community of early-movers and pro-Freedom NH natives.

Welcome, and I hope that after seeing the successes we've had at this early stage, you'll at least come join us for PorcFest! :)

Remember you are only a hop skip and a jump from our Seacoast Porc meeting. :)  This month our meeting has morfed into a dinner engagement for a couple of folks visiting and house shopping in Porsmouth.  Newick's, 7pm, on Dover Point Road in Dover.  Next month we will be back to our regular meetings at the Gateway, third Saturday at noon, in Sommersworth. :)

I hope to see you here. The winters aren't that brutal, at least not for the last few years. I think you will find that by moving to NH you can enjoy more freedom and enjoy a higher quality of life than in RI.

You are in luck as NH has more gun freedom than AZ, RI, or any state between them.

Thank you for the warm welcome to your forum and the invite to the PorcFest.  Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the event.  My wife and I and the dog will be in Utah visiting family at that time.  Just curious...why a porcupine?

I believe it may be because porupines are such great runners! http://www.porcupinerun.com/

Just curious...why a porcupine?

There's a brief discussion of that about 1/3 of the way through this TV show:

Ok I get it now.  I watched that TV show and read the FAQ's on the home page.  Interesting choice.

Welcome, Jrafe.  If you're willing to move and become an activist when you get here, we would be happy to have you.  Just be aware that many (most, I would hope) of us FSP members are as pro-choice on sexuality as we are on gun ownership.  If you can live with that, we'll get along fine.

Hello Morey, Rebel

Morey, I have no problem with who has sex with who, not my business.  My reference to the Mayor of Providence speaks more to the liberal (re: anti-gun) culture of the state.  Liberal enough to elect the ONLY homosexual big city Mayor in the country.  In turn, liberal enough to have oppressive gun policies that would make Stalin proud.  Sorry if it came across as homophobic.  I would gladly support any elected person who upholds the law, whatever their sexual orientation is.

Now that I've spent a year in New Hampshire learning about the legislative process, I do not want people who just uphold the law -- I want people to RESPECT the CONSTITUTION. There are too many "laws" getting passed (in all 50 states) that would have made Thomas Jefferson reach for his gun... or, more powerfully, his quill pen!

Anyway, welcome to this highly Libertarian -- and therefore prickly -- forum.
There's an old joke about the Free State Project, with a punchline something like "When 20,000 Libertarians come within argusing distance of one another!" ;)

Anyway, critical debates are good. Especially if you'll be spending any time with us in the NH State House, engaging the political processs!

Hopefully there will be more than pictures.  Roger at politicalgraffiti.com is making a porcfest video.  When its all done, he'll post it on his forum.  (For simplicity's sake, I also post them, with his gracious permission, at my myspace page:  www.myspace.com/calebjohnson   Just click on the "videos" link under my picture and voila, there are his videos.  I'll add the Porcfest video when its ready.)
