Do it yourself!?!?  Interesting concept, but I sure hope there are some pros you can hire to do it for you!

I must say I'm still leaning toward manufactured housing, but this is intriguing...

     Thanks for the link.

Ian

Reminds me of the houses in toxic architectural waste dump shown in "Edward Scissorhands".

The designers probably decided a kitchen and bathroom were not needed since the occupants would not want to spend much time there.

There is an option for a kitchenette and toilet on the right.

it looks like there is a little kitchenette in the upper left corner by the table. And itlloks like there is a stairway that possibly leads up to a loft.

Those look Pretty Small.

Considering you can build a 40x40 underground house for around the same price.

I'm still not sold on underground.  Wouldn't even very minor seismic activity have an ugly effect on a house whose wall faces the ground?

Still planning the dome house myself.

http://www.aidomes.com/

The dome itself is about $13k for a 34'.

Figure I'll throw a dome-raising party and put it up over a a couple weekends and then do the interior at my leisure.

Ahh, well if we're talking about our dream houses, I'm building this:

http://earthship.org/

No heating costs (rammed earth and solar heating)
No water costs (rainwater collect functions on 9 inches of annual rainfall and uses triple recycling of water systems)
No electrical costs (large solar array)

Basically, the only way you'd be required to hook up to the grid is for phone (if you don't like cellphones) and cable connection (if you don't like satillite dishes).

Talk about low-cost!  Plus you're not using any local water storage, any electricity, any oil or natural gas, etc.

Plus they look cool.
