Concerns Buying Property Near Lumber Mills?
« on: October 21, 2015, 05:44:49 pm »

I've found some homes that I'm interested in that are located near (within a mile) a lumber mill.  Are there environmental concerns being that close to a mill?  Do they use chemicals that might taint the ground water or cause harmful odors?  I would imagine there might be noise and truck traffic to/from the mill.  There are no lumber mills around where I currently live so I have no idea the effects on nearby home ownership.  How bad is it?

If it's actually a lumber mill (turns logs into boards), they don't use any chemicals other than fuel and oil for the machines.

They are noisy, but are generally daytime operations. Expect truck traffic throughout the day.

Thanks KBCraig.  I'm not sure if that's all they do.  I was concerned about pressure treating and such.  I'll have to look into the mill in question to see if they do anything other than cut boards.  Thanks again.
