Jeff Merkley, Oregon Senator Takes on the Banks

30. June 2012 by admin.

Editor’s Notes (from Neil Garfield):

Hat Tip to Nancie Koerber, whose efforts in Oregon have achieved more traction than virtually any other group in the nation. I endorse this petition. Senator Jeff Merkley’s efforts could have national implications if we the people get on this drive and enforce it through petitions and letters. I have often said in my speaking engagements and in my meetings with politicians, that if they really want to win big, they should capitalize on the one common idea about which all sides of the political spectrum are in agreement: the Banks did this to us and we should stop them. This applies to all politicians — Democrat, Republican, Independent and minor parties. Any politician who fails to grasp this essential truth of the American psyche is putting their political career behind them, not in front of them.

There is a lot of anger out there which has not been focused or directed at any particular result. This petition basically seeks to re-establish the protection of bank deposits from the whims of bankers who want to gamble with what is left of their money. It’s not the same as Glass-Steagal but it seeks the same result.

This is not a theoretical argument. Banks were allowed to be created so that people would have a safe place to keep their money and the banks were allowed to lend out a percentage of that money to make a profit and pay expenses. Banking was never intended to be a vehicle for paying $10 million bonuses at the expense of protected pension funds, homeowners and consumers.

Investment firms were allowed to exist because they created a marketplace in which access to capital was easier than without that marketplace. The purpose was to fuel an expanding economy. It was never intended that brokerage firms would be a vehicle for draining wealth out of the economy. The very fact that we have that result indicates that the current investment bank infrastructure needs to be revamped.

It’s like driving a car. When you turn the key you expect the car to start. When you step on the accelerator you expect the car to move. But none of that can happen if there is no gas in the tank to drive the engine that turns on when you turn the key and makes the engine work when you press the accelerator. Until Glass-Steagal was repealed, we had the right infrastructure, more or less, for capital creation and access to capital. Then the whole model was turned upside down and the wealth drained from the economy into the investment banks. Now the Banks want to keep it upside down, meaning their goal is no longer to provide capital but to take it, converting our capitalist society into a fascist society. Look up the terms and you’ll see what I mean.

It is all up to you. The Banks have legislators by the throats and law enforcement is all tangled up in politics and “Settlements” that prevent them from acting properly. In the Savings and Loan crisis in the 1980’s, similar behavior landed more than 800 people in jail. This time we have nothing because some of the behavior was made legal. The excuse for not prosecuting fraud, forgery, fabrication and false recording of false documents with false information in them is yet to be explained.

[For Economic Recovery] And the remedy for the 5 million foreclosures that have been “closed out” is not yet in public discourse. I intend to make it central to public discourse because the return of property or money to the victims of this heinous economic crime is essential to the recovery of our economy. Right now, the financial services sector accounts for about half of our reported Gross Domestic Product whereas thirty years ago it accounted for 16%. They have tripled their size and influence at the expense of real economic activity, which has been replaced by trading fabricated documents and declaring false profits.

For those of you who like the idea of slavery, keep voting with the politicians who remove restrictions from the banks’ activities. If you think slavery was not a good idea, then sign this petition and start a few of your own. The physical chains of our immoral history allowing and promoting the trading of people as property has been replaced by the trading of people as property through derivatives and other false instruments. The net result is the same. Changing the title from plantation owner to banker does little to expand the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. With an increasing number of people earning less out of our economic growth than any other time in history and replacing earnings with debt, we are now subject to a system of slavery that is enforced by the government.

Below is an email from your U.S. Senator, Jeff Merkley (D-OR). Sen. Merkley created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition. If you have concerns or feedback about this petition, click here: http://civic.moveon.org/signon_feedback/?id=44278-19313702-uxkpvGx&t=1

Dear Oregon MoveOn member,

Bankers on Wall Street wrecked our economy by taking reckless risks in pursuit of massive paydays. And, as J.P. Morgan has made clear, Wall Street learned nothing and is still gambling.

If you agree that gambling should happen in hedge funds, not in the federally insured banks that families and small businesses depend on, click here to sign my petition:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=276552&id=44278-19313702-uxkpvGx&t=2

I successfully fought, with your help, for a ban on high-risk trading by big Wall Street banks. This rule, called the Volcker rule firewall, is meant to ensure that when Wall Street’s bad bets blow up, you and I don’t get burned again. But for the last two years, Wall Street’s legion of lobbyists have been trying to blow holes in that firewall.

Wall Street lobbyists want the Fed to write the J.P. Morgan loophole into law. We can’t let that happen. And with your help, we won’t.

Please add your name to my http://SignOn.org petition urging Ben Bernanke and the Fed to close down the JP Morgan loophole.

Thanks!

–U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR)

Banks were "allowed" to exist?  Isn't that nice of them.

Banks didn't cause this collapse.  The government did.

10,000 armed men enter Syria for civil war 02 Jul 2012 An estimated 10,000 armed men equipped with highly-sophisticated weapons, including anti-tank missiles, have reportedly entered Syria to help fuel the unrest in the country, Press TV has learned. Informed sources in the Qusayr village in Homs say the terrorists crossed into Syria from the Lebanese border and that they have taken positions in the suburbs of the restive city. Meanwhile, Syrian forces are still tracking armed groups fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad across the country.

US court orders Twitter to hand over Occupy tweets 02 Jul 2012 A New York judge Monday ordered Twitter to turn over data on one of its users involved in the Occupy Wall Street protest movement, in a case watched closely as a test of online freedom of speech. Manhattan criminal court Judge Matthew Sciarrino ruled that law enforcement had the right to see tweets and other user data from Malcolm Harris, who is being prosecuted for disorderly conduct in connection with the Occupy Wall Street protest on the Brooklyn Bridge last year. The judge said that the tweets are not private information and thus not subject to the constitutional guarantee of privacy.

US Adds Forces in Persian Gulf, a Signal to Iran 03 Jul 2012 The United States has quietly moved significant military reinforcements into the Persian Gulf to deter the Iranian military from any possible attempt to shut the Strait of Hormuz and to increase the number of fighter jets capable of striking deep into Iran if the standoff over its nuclear program escalates. The deployments are part of a long-planned effort to bolster the American military presence in the gulf region... The Navy has doubled the number of minesweepers assigned to the region, to eight vessels, in what military officers describe as a purely defensive move.

US ramps up covert operations overseas: Report 03 Jul 2012 Data released by the British not-for-profit news organization, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, shows that the United States has ramped up its covert operations in Yemen, Pakistan, and Somalia, killing scores of civilians. According to a recent analysis, published by the London-based organization on Monday, the CIA assassination drone attacks continue to claim the lives of Muslims in Pakistan, despite Islamabad's repeated condemnation of such strikes against the Pakistani tribal areas. Washington claims that its airstrikes target militants crossing the border with Afghanistan, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.

NATO tied to Muslim slaughter at Srebrenica 03 Jul 2012 One of the most brutal incidents in recent history is the massacre at Srebrenica in 1995 by a paramilitary group known as "the Scorpions." We now have a top level witness and reams of official documents that categorically prove that it was NATO ordered, not only the Dutch "stand down" that led to the killings, but recruited, paid and controlled the Scorpions as well.

Poor Land in Jail as Companies Add Huge Fees for Probation 03 Jul 2012 Richard Earl Garrett is the lead plaintiff in a class action suit against the town of Harpersville, Ala. Mr. Garrett has spent a total of 24 months in jail and owes $10,000, all for traffic and license violations that began a decade ago. William M. Dawson, a Birmingham lawyer and Democratic Party activist, has filed a lawsuit for Mr. Garrett and others against the local authorities and the probation company, Judicial Correction Services, which is based in Georgia. In Georgia, three dozen for-profit probation companies operate in hundreds of courts, and there have been similar lawsuits.

Maple Seed Drones Will Swarm the Future [Not if enough people *blow them out of the sky.*] 04 Jul 2012 Imagine a cheap, tiny, hovering aerial drone capable of being launched with the flick of a person's wrist and able to provide manipulable 360-degree surveillance views. It's real, it's inspired by maple seeds, and the company behind it, Lockheed Martin, envisions a future in which swarms of the new drones can be deployed at a fraction of the cost and with greater capabilities than drones being used today by the military and other agencies. "Think about dropping a thousand of these out of an aircraft," said Bill Borgia, head of Lockheed Martin's Intelligent Robotics Lab, in a phone interview with TPM.

US helicopter appears to fire on Afghans --Video released on internet appears to show US helicopter crew singing before blasting Afghans with a missile 06 Jul 2012 A video has surfaced online that appears to show a US helicopter crew singing "Bye-bye Miss American Pie" before blasting a group of Afghan men with a Hellfire missile. The footage comes in the wake of a string of damaging videos and pictures showing US forces in Afghanistan urinating on the bodies of dead 'insurgents,' and posing with the remains of suicide bombers and civilians killed for sport by a group of rogue soldiers. The posting says the video was recorded in Wardak province, which lies south-west of the capital, Kabul, in September 2009.

[Thought Police at Work] Wireless Firms Are Flooded by Requests to Aid Surveillance 09 Jul 2012 In the first public accounting of its kind, cellphone carriers reported that they responded to a startling 1.3 million demands for subscriber information last year from law enforcement agencies seeking text messages, caller locations and other information in the course of investigations. The cellphone carriers’ reports, which come in response to a Congressional inquiry, document an explosion in cellphone surveillance in the last five years, with the companies turning over records thousands of times a day in response to police emergencies, court orders, law enforcement subpoenas and other requests. The reports also reveal a sometimes uneasy partnership with law enforcement agencies, with the carriers frequently rejecting demands that they considered legally questionable or unjustified.

Tiny 2-Foot Missile Could Be 'Months' Away From Drone War 13 Jul 2012 The drone war could be shrinking faster than anyone expected. Raytheon's teeny, tiny drone missile might be ready to arm a small drone within months, the defense giant says. Since 2009, Raytheon has been experimenting with what it understatedly calls a Small Tactical Munition. It's a laser-guided missile less than two feet long and barely a 10th the weight of the Hellfire missiles that the iconic Predators and Reapers pack. And the wait for it may be almost over: "We're just tweaking the software and running some environmental tests," a business manager for Raytheon's missile division told AIN Online. That would open new worlds of possibility for the U.S. drone arsenal.

Italian court postpones ruling in CIA rendition case 14 Jul 2012 The CIA and U.S. military officials appealing their convictions before the Italian Supreme Court on charges of kidnapping a terrorist suspect in Milan must wait until September for a possible final verdict in the long-running case. The Supreme Court of Cassation in Rome on Saturday postponed until Sept. 19 its highly anticipated ruling, which will determine the fates of two Washingtonians, Sabrina De Sousa, a former CIA operative, and Col. Joseph L. Romano III, a retired Air Force commander. The case is considered significant because a foreign country - an ally - prosecuted and convicted U.S. officials for the practice of rendition, in which a terrorist suspect is flown against his will to another country for interrogation to be tortured.

Egyptians pelt Clinton motorcade with tomatoes 15 Jul 2012 Protesters threw tomatoes and shoes at Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's motorcade on Sunday during her first visit to Egypt since the election of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi. A tomato struck an Egyptian official in the face, and shoes and a water bottle landed near the armored cars carrying Clinton's delegation in the port city of Alexandria after she gave a speech on democratic rights. A senior U.S. official said neither Clinton nor her vehicle, which was around the corner from the incident, were hit by the projectiles, which were thrown as U.S. officials and reporters walked to the motorcade after her speech.

One dead, three hurt after US fires on UAE fishing boat 16 Jul 2012 A U.S. Navy vessel fired on an approaching fishing boat off the United Arab Emirates on Monday, killing an Indian national and seriously injuring three others, the UAE's state news agency (WAM) said. "The firing has led to the death of one Indian national and serious injury of three Indian nationals," Tarek al-Hedan, an aide to the foreign minister for political affairs, told WAM. He said that authorities in the UAE are investigating the matter.

London 2012: Olympic missile tenants in terrorist fear 09 Jul 2012 Council tenants have argued a plan to place surface-to-air missiles on their tower block during the Olympics could make them a terrorism target. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) rejected the claim, saying missile deployment as part of security measures for the Games was legitimate and proportionate. Residents of Fred Wigg Tower in Leytonstone, east London, have applied for permission for a judicial review at the High Court. [Residents are terrified of the government's impending false flag.]

Police embracing tech that predicts crimes 09 Jul 2012 Predictive-analytics software is the latest piece of policing technology working its way into law-enforcement stations around the country. A map of a city is marked up with small red squares, each indicating a 500-by-500-foot zone where crimes are likely to take place next. A heat-map mode shows even more precisely where cars may be stolen, houses robbed, people mugged. The program is called PredPol, and it calculates its forecasts based on times and locations of previous crimes, combined with sociological information about criminal behavior and patterns.

SWAT raid on organizers of Occupy Seattle and E4E By kasama 10 Jul 2012 Early morning July 10, SWAT police forced their way into the Seattle apartment of organizers from the Occupy movement. The sleeping residents scrambled to put on clothes as they were confronted with automatic weapons. Neighbor Natalio Perez heard the attack from downstairs: "Suddenly we heard the bang of their grenade, and the crashing as police entered the apartment. The crashing and stomping continued for a long time as they tore the place apart."

C.I.A. Vaccine Ruse May Have Harmed the War on Polio 10 Jul 2012 After the ruse by Dr. Shakil Afridi was revealed by a British newspaper a year ago, angry villagers, especially in the lawless tribal areas on the Afghan border, chased off 'legitimate' vaccinators, accusing them of being spies. And then, late last month, Taliban commanders in two districts banned polio vaccination teams, saying they could not operate until the United States ended its drone strikes. One cited Dr. Afridi, who is serving a 33-year sentence imposed by a tribal court, as an example of how the C.I.A. could use the campaign to cover espionage. Rumors about polio vaccine abound: that it is a Western plot to sterilize girls, that it is unclean under Islamic law, that it contains the AIDS virus. ['A rumor is just a premature fact.' The US wants to weaken the populations in Afghanistan and Pakistan so that it's easier for the US to steal resources and install controllable regimes. That's why US assassination drones kill civilians daily. --LRP]

Chains you can believe in: Lawyers for Bagram detainees seek habeas like at Guantánamo --About 3,200 prisoners reportedly are being held at Bagram 16 Jul 2012 Prisoners held without trial for years at an American air base in Afghanistan shouldn't be able to challenge their indefinite detention with the help of the U.S. Constitution, Obama administration attorneys argued Monday. Reinforcing a hard-line view that's prevailed in past court battles, the administration said again that the foreign-born detainees at Bagram Air Field lacked the habeas corpus rights that the U.S. Supreme Court has extended to those held at the American naval base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

New York and Connecticut look into LIBOR rate-fixing allegations 16 Jul 2012 New York and Connecticut attorneys general have joined forces to investigate alleged manipulation of the LIBOR interest rates. The scandal is already being investigated by the US justice department and financial regulators on both sides of the Atlantic. But the involvement of New York state is likely to ramp up the investigation. New York state's Martin Act gives its attorney general the most wide-ranging investigative powers of any state.

Court demands secret files on US 'black jails,' torture 17 Jul 2012 The United States is facing fresh embarrassment over its use of 'black' detention sites after the European Court of Human Rights ordered Poland to hand over secret documents about its role in the War on Terror, The Daily Telegraph has learned. Judges in Strasbourg have requested documents that contain details of how the CIA set up its "extraordinary rendition" centre outside Warsaw in 2002 where it subjected al-Qaeda suspects to water-boarding and other extreme interrogation techniques. A month ago, a Polish whistle-blower alleged that a document existed which allowed the setting up of the prison – including procedures to adopt in the event of an inmate's death. It was said to have been signed by the head of Polish intelligence. According to the leak, American officials "laughed" and refused to sign the document. "They considered us amateurs and explained that this kind of business could not be dealt with by means of formal agreements," the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza reported.

HSBC Allegedly Financed al-Qaeda, Made Billions on Illegal US Drug Sales: Report 17 Jul 2012 , HSBC is a British multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in London. The result of the Senate's work, a nearly 400-page report, describes in exhaustive detail how HSBC Holdings Plc. executives repeatedly ignored warning signs from their own compliance officers, and from outside regulators, all of whom watched what they believed to be billions of dollars in suspicious transactions passing through the bank without adequate scrutiny. The report describes how HSBC's Mexican affiliate moved $7 billion in physical U.S. dollars through the bank in a two-year stretch, "raising red flags that the volume of dollars included proceeds from illegal drug sales in the United States." It lays out how HSBC's executives ignored warnings that it was providing currency to a Saudi bank alleged by some U.S. officials to be involved in financing al-Qaeda [al-CIAduh].

Arpaio: Obama birth record 'definitely fraudulent' 18 Jul 2012 Investigators for an Arizona sheriff's volunteer posse have declared that President Barack Obama's birth certificate is definitely fraudulent. Members of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's posse said in March that there was probable cause that Obama's long-form birth certificate released by the White House in April 2011 was a computer-generated forgery. Now, Arpaio says investigators are positive it's fraudulent. Mike Zullo, the posse's chief investigator, said numeric codes on certain parts of the birth certificate indicate that those parts weren't filled out, yet those sections asking for the race of Obama's father and his field of work or study were completed.

'Private contractors are whacking people like crazy over in Afghanistan for the CIA.' --The Terrifying Background of the Man Who Ran a CIA Assassination Unit 18 Jul 2012 It was one of the biggest secrets of the post-9/11 era: soon after the attacks, President Bush gave the CIA permission to create a top secret assassination unit to find and kill Al Qaeda operatives. The program was kept from Congress for seven years. And when Leon Panetta told legislators about it in 2009, he revealed that the CIA had hired the private security firm Blackwater to help run it. "The move was historic," says Evan Wright, the two-time National Magazine Award-winning journalist who wrote Generation Kill. "It seems to have marked the first time the U.S. government outsourced a covert assassination service to private enterprise." ..."Running operations through Blackwater gave the CIA the power to have people abducted, or killed, with no one in the government being exactly responsible." ..."While Blackwater's covert unit began as a Bush administration story, President Obama now owns it."

Pentagon, CIA Sued for Lethal Drone Attacks on U.S. Citizens 18 Jul 2012 Survivors of three Americans killed by targeted drone attacks in Yemen last year sued top-ranking members of the United States government, alleging Wednesday they illegally killed the three, including a 16-year-old boy, in violation of international human rights law and the U.S. Constitution. "The government has killed three Americans. It should account for its actions. This case gives us an opportunity to do that," Jameel Jaffer, deputy legal director with the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a press call. The suit is being litigated by the Center for Constitutional Rights and the ACLU. It seeks unspecified damages and highlights the government's so-called unmanned "targeted killing" program. The ACLU and the Center maintain the drone attacks have killed thousands, including hundreds of innocent bystanders overseas.

Justice Department Sues Telecom for Challenging National Security Letter 18 Jul 2012 Last year, when a telecommunications company received an ultra-secret demand letter from the FBI seeking information about a customer or customers, the telecom took an extraordinary step - it challenged the underlying authority of the FBI's National Security Letter, as well as the legitimacy of the gag order that came with it. Both challenges are allowed under a federal law that governs NSLs, a power greatly expanded under the Patriot Act that allows the government to get detailed information on Americans' finances and communications without oversight from a judge. The FBI has issued hundreds of thousands of NSLs and been reprimanded for abusing them - though almost none of the requests have been challenged by the recipients. After the telecom challenged its NSL last year, the Justice Department took its own extraordinary measure: It sued the company, arguing in court documents that the company was violating the law by challenging its authority.

Protect privacy from drones at home, lawmakers say 20 Jul 2012 Before thousands of civilian drones begin flying in U.S. skies, Congress should take steps to protect the public's privacy and prevent terrorists from hacking or jamming signals that control the aircraft, lawmakers said Thursday. House members from both parties said at an oversight hearing that they're worried about potential privacy and security threats as the use of small unmanned aircraft becomes widespread. The Federal Aviation Administration forecasts an estimated 10,000 civilian drones will be in use in the U.S. within five years.

Colo. shooter's father, Robert M. Holmes, authored US Navy, military reports, Posted by Lori Price, www.legitgov.org, 20 Jul 2012.

Aurora, Colorado Shooting 'Oddities' -- HOW is a former student, jobless, able to spend *thousands of dollars* on, essentially, a full-blown military arsenal? Just curious. Oh. Unless, of course, someone *gave* it to him... like... his handler? By Lori Price, http://www.legitgov.org/ 21 Jul 2012

University: CO shooting suspect had federal grant 21 Jul 2012 The University of Colorado says shooting suspect James Holmes had a federal grant to study neuroscience. University spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery said Saturday that Holmes was one of six neuroscience students at the school to get National Institutes of Health grant money. She didn't know how much money he got. The NIH says the university decides who gets the grants. Criteria for receiving the grant weren't immediately clear.

Pentagon: Three Military Members Injured in Colorado Shooting; Sailor Unaccounted For 21 Jul 2012 Two military members have been reported dead, according to reports from CNN and Bloomberg News. Air Force Staff Sergeant Jesse Childress, 29, a cyber systems operator, and Navy Petty Officer Third Class John Larimer, 27, a cryptologic technician, both died due to the shooting. Both had been assigned to Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo., Bloomberg reports. One sailor remains unaccounted for following a shooting at a Colorado movie theater that left 12 dead and dozens more wounded Friday morning, according to a Pentagon statement. A second sailor and two airmen were injured in the shooting, but the extent of their injuries remains unknown. Earlier, The Associated Press reported that "some members of the military were either killed or wounded," according to a Pentagon spokesman.

Aurora Shooting Mirrored Training Exercise on Same Day Near Denver --'The irony is amazing, just amazing.' 21 Jul 2012 The tragedy that played out in an Aurora movie theater Friday was ironically paralleled as a classroom learning experience in a medical school in Parker the same day. Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine is in the middle of holding specialized classes in disaster life support for 150 second-year medical students. Along with response to natural disasters like hurricanes and floods and terrorist attacks, one of the scenarios being used to train the students is how to respond if a shooter fires at people in a movie theater and also uses a bomb in the attack. "The irony is amazing, just amazing," said Rocky Vista Dean Dr. Bruce Dubin.

CIA, allies behind terrorist attack in Syria: Iran MP 21 Jul 2012 A senior Iranian lawmaker says the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and its regional as well as Arab allies are behind the recent terrorist attack in Syria. "The recent terrorist attack in Damascus has been organized by the US Central Intelligence Agency and its Western and Arab allies," Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of the Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said in a Saturday statement. "Today state terrorism, led by the US [and Israel], is the most dangerous form of terrorism that is threatening regional and global security," he added.

Heads up! Odds skyrocketing for big London MOSSAD/MI6/CIA false flag so Israel can attack Iran: London on alert for terror attack ahead of Olympic Games 22 Jul 2012 Israel [pretends it] fears an Iranian terror squad in Europe are planning to attack their athletes during the London Olympics, according to reports. Agents from Israel's elite intelligence organisation, Mossad, are hunting Iranian-backed terrorists in Europe, who are allegedly planning an "anniversary" attack 40 years after the Munich massacre, Britain's The Sunday Times reports. In preparation for an Olympic terror assault, panic rooms for VIPs and spectators have been set up beneath London's Olympic Stadium to protect them from being taken hostage or killed, according to The Sunday Times.

Marine Corps creates law enforcement battalions --The battalions will be capable of helping control civil disturbances, handling detainees, carrying out forensic work, and using biometrics to identify suspects. 22 Jul 2012 The Marine Corps has created its first law enforcement battalions - a lean, specialized force of military police officers that it hopes can quickly deploy worldwide to help investigate crimes from terrorism to drug trafficking and train fledgling security forces in allied nations. The Corps activated three such battalions last month. Each is made up of roughly 500 military police officers and dozens of dogs.

Power Pwn: This DARPA-funded power strip will hack your network 22 Jul 2012 The Power Pwn may look like an ordinary power strip, maybe with an included surge protector, but it's far from it. Network administrators and IT staff in general need to be wary of this one: it can do much more than meets the eye. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)'s Cyber Fast Track program helped fund the development of the Power Pwn. Pwnie Express, which developed the $1,295 gizmo, says it's "a fully-integrated enterprise-class penetration testing platform." That's great, but the company also notes its "ingenious form-factor" and "highly-integrated/modular hardware design," which to me translates to: it's the perfect tool for hacking a corporate network.

DHS-FBI 17 May 2012 Memo: 'Terrorists' Interest in Attacking Theaters and Similar Mass Gatherings' [That was just two months before the actual shooting.] Posted by Lori Price, http://www.legitgov.org/ 23 Jul 2012 On 17 May 2012, the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a warning regarding possible attacks to US movie theaters. The release, 'Terrorists' Interest in Attacking Theaters and Similar Mass Gatherings,' has been saved by Citizens For Legitimate Government (CLG) as the memo appears to have been pulled by the DHS/FBI. The warning was issued in collaboration with the Interagency Threat Assessment and Coordination Group. The memo includes the following warning. '(U//FOUO) An early April 2012 suicide bombing of a theater in Somalia and a violent extremist communication advocating attacks on US theaters highlight terrorists' continued interest in attacking such venues. Although we have no specific or credible information indicating that terrorists plan to attack theaters in the United States, terrorists may seek to emulate overseas attacks on theaters here in the United States because they have the potential to inflict mass casualties and cause local economic damage.'

A Spiteful New Policy at Guantánamo Bay (The New York Times) 23 Jul 2012 The Obama administration's latest overuse of executive authority at Guantánamo Bay is a decision not to let lawyers visit clients in detention under terms that have been in place since 2004. Because these meetings pose little risk and would send a message about America's adherence to the rule of law, the administration looks as if it is imperiously punishing detainees for their temerity in bringing legal challenges to their detention and losing. In one case, the administration is saying that the Yemeni national Yasin Qasem Muhammad Ismail no longer has the right to meet with his counsel, David Remes, because his plea to be released was "terminated." The Justice Department will only let them meet, it said in an e-mail to Mr. Remes, if he signs a new memorandum giving the government what Mr. Remes calls "absolute authority over access to counsel."

US drone strike kills 13 in North Waziristan, Pakistan 23 Jul 2012 Miranshah: At least 13 people have been killed in a US drone strike in North Waziristan Agency of Pakistan, northwestern tribal region bordering Afghanistan, sources said on Friday. The sources said that the drone fired eight missiles on a house in Shawal area of the agency, killing 13 people in the attack. "Fear prevailed in the area as more drones are still flying in the air," they added.

Witnesses: General Opposed Hospital Abuse Probe 24 Jul 2012 The American general who led NATO's training mission in Afghanistan opposed an inspector general's investigation into "Auschwitz-like conditions" and corruption at the main Afghan army military hospital, two retired U.S. military officers are telling Congress. The retired officers, in testimony prepared for a House hearing Tuesday, said Lt. Gen. William Caldwell IV admonished subordinates for contacting the Defense Department's inspector general about Dawood National Military Hospital. Retired Army Col. Gerald Carozza Jr., who was chief of legal development assisting the Afghan Army and defense ministry, said Caldwell at one point expressed concern that the request was too close to the 2010 congressional elections.

Ecuadorean officials invite Swedish authorities to London to interview Julian Assange 26 Jul 2012 The Wikileaks founder Julian Assange could yet avoid extradition for questioning over sexual assault allegations after Ecuadorean government officials invited the Swedish authorities to London, offering to host an interview there instead. Senior Ecuadorean government sources said today they have sent a formal request to Sweden and would be happy to facilitate questioning between Mr Assange and the Swedish prosecutor in their west London embassy, where the Wikileaks founder has been staying for the more than a month after claiming asylum.

Jim Greer denounces Florida Republican Party officials as liars, 'right-wing crazies' in deposition --Greer: GOP leaders met to discuss ways they could suppress black votes 26 Jul 2012 In a wide-ranging deposition that spanned two days in late May, former Florida Republican Party chairman Jim Greer denounced some party officials as liars and "whack-a-do, right-wing crazies" as he described turmoil in the months before his resignation. Greer said some GOP leaders were meeting to discuss ways they could suppress black votes while others were constantly scheming against each other.

Alabama asks court to back GOP-backed redistricting plan 26 Jul 2012 Alabama's attorney general filed a lawsuit Thursday asking a federal court to approve a redistricting plan for his Legislature without requiring the plan to go through the U.S. Justice Department for approval to make sure it doesn't discriminate against minority voters. The lawsuit seeks a declaratory judgment from a three-judge panel of U.S. District Court in Washington finding that the plan approved by the Alabama Legislature during a special session in May does not deny or abridge the right to vote based on race or color. Democrats in the Legislature have complained that the plan passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature was written to favor Republicans and packed black voters in some districts while leaving them with little influence in other districts. Senate Minority Leader Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, said the attorney general's office wants to avoid the justice department's preclearance process because the Legislature "passed a racially gerrymandered plan."

US report says Iraq 'rebuilders' died by hundreds --'Reconstruction' effort in Iraq cost US taxpayers about $62 billion 27 Jul 2012 In the first tally of its kind, a federal investigative agency has calculated that at least 719 people, nearly half of them Americans, were killed working on projects to rebuild Iraq following the U.S. invasion in 2003. The actual number of people killed doing reconstruction work is probably much higher than 719 but cannot be reliably determined, the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction said in releasing its estimate Friday.

DARPA's Blue Angel - Pentagon prepares millions of vaccines against future global flu 28 Jul 2012 The Pentagon's DARPA lab has announced a milestone, but it doesn't involve drones or death missiles. Scientists at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency say they've produced 10 million doses of an influenza vaccine in only one month's time. In a press release issued by the agency's office this week, scientists with DARPA say they've reach an important step in being able to combat spread a flu pandemic that might someday decimate the Earth's population. By working with the Medicago Inc. vaccine company, the Pentagon's cutting edge research lab says that they've used a massive harvest of tobacco plants to help produce a plethora of flu-fighting vaccines. [Am I the *only one* wondering: WHY is *DARPA* manufacturing vaccines? You would have to be *out of your mind* to allow an injection of *anything* concocted by the Pentagon!]

Colo. shooting suspect's psychiatrist in threat-assessment team 28 Jul 2012 A former University of Colorado graduate student accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others in a shooting rampage at a Denver-area movie theater last week had been under the care of a psychiatrist who was part of a campus threat-assessment team. The disclosure came in court documents filed overnight, NZT, by lawyers for James Holmes....

DHS gears up for civil unrest prior to presidential election 28 Jul 2012 The Department of Homeland Security has ordered masses of riot gear equipment to prepare for potential significant domestic riots at the Republican National Convention, Democratic National Convention and next year's presidential inauguration. The DHS submitted a rushed solicitation to the Federal Business Opportunities site on Wednesday, which is a portal for Federal government procurement requisitions over $25,000. The request gave the potential suppliers only one day to submit their proposals and a 15-day delivery requirement to Alexandria, Virginia.

NSA wants to hire hackers 28 Jul 2012 Wearing a t-shirt and jeans, America's top spymaster -- National Security Agency Director Gen. Keith Alexander, also the head of the U.S. Cyber Command -- took the stage Friday at the nation's largest hacker convention to deliver a recruiting pitch. Alexander's appearance is a milestone for DefCon, a hacker mecca with an often-uneasy relationship with the feds. To hammer the point home, the NSA set up a special recruiting site for the show: http://www.nsa.gov/careers/dc20/. It's not your standard government careers page. This one includes the line: "If you have a few, shall we say, indiscretions in your past, don't be alarmed."

Romney in favor of 'any measures' against Iran 29 Jul 2012 In a 6,000-mile reach for evangelical and Jewish voters in the presidential election, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney said Sunday that the U.S. should "employ any and all measures" to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, arguing that it is the nation's most pressing national security issue. With the Tower of David in the Old City of Jerusalem as a backdrop, Mr. Romney said that "we recognize Israel's right to defend itself," but stopped short of reiterating the words of a foreign policy aide who told reporters that the Republican would "respect" a unilateral Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.

US audit: $200M wasted on Iraqi police training 30 Jul 2012 U.S. auditors have concluded that more than $200 million was wasted on a program to train Iraqi police that Baghdad says is neither needed nor wanted. The Police Development Program -- which was drawn up to be the single largest State Department program in the world -- was envisioned as a five-year, multibillion-dollar push to train security forces after the U.S. military left last December. But Iraqi political leaders, anxious to keep their distance from the Americans, were unenthusiastic. The findings call into question funding needs at the largest U.S. embassy in the world, as the Obama administration prepares its new spending plan for the 2013 fiscal year that begins Oct 1.

Iran sentences four people to death for bank fraud [<g>] 30 Jul 2012 An Iranian court has sentenced four people to death for a billion-dollar bank fraud that tainted the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, state media reported on Monday. Iranians, hit by sanctions and soaring inflation, were shocked by the scale of the $2.6-billion bank loan embezzlement that was exposed last year and by allegations it was carried out by people close to the political elite or with their assent. Of the thirty-nine people tried for the fraud - the biggest in the Islamic Republic's history - four were sentenced to hang, the IRNA state news agency reported.

Tea-Party-Backed Cruz Wins Texas Senate GOP Runoff 31 Jul 2012 Houston lawyer Rafael "Ted" Cruz easily won a runoff election Tuesday to become the Republican U.S. Senate nominee in Texas, underscoring how tea-party activists are upending this year's GOP primary contests. Mr. Cruz, a tea-party favorite, defeated Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, the candidate backed by most of the state GOP establishment, including Gov. Rick Perry. He led by 55% to 45%, with 53% of the state's 7,957 precincts reporting.

PARDON MY FRENCH, BUT I'M PISSED OFF NOW.  When I left on the Lawless America Movie Road Trip 49 days ago, I was on a mission.  I knew the judicial and government corruption in America was bad, but I underestimated how bad.
Our country is broken. We must save America. We must help the millions of victims.
We must save our children and grandchildren from this.

We must turn LAWLESS AMERICA into a peaceful revolution -- a movement that will grab the attention of millions of people. And it seems we will have to do it with little or no exposure from the mainstream media. This means we have to turn the Internet into our own mainstream media.

Please reach out to everyone you know, everyone who is a victim, everyone who belongs to appropriate organizations and Facebook groups. The predicament our country is in is FAR WORSE than what the colonists faced. Please be a Paul Revere -- get on "your horse" and spread the word.

I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!

The Basics

Lawless America...The Movie is all about exposing the fact that we now live in Lawless America.  We no longer have laws that are enforced because judges do whatever they want to do.  America has also become lawless because government officials are dishonest and/or corrupt.

The movie will expose corruption in every state.  The Movie will focus on victims.  Corrupt judges and corrupt government officials will be exposed, and we will confront a number of the crooks. ...

Resumed NATO Convoys Mean Millions for Taliban --Insurgents earned millions of dollars from [US-funded] Afghan security firms 31 Jul 2012 As the United States trumpeted its success in persuading Pakistan to end its seven-month blockade of supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan, another group privately cheered its good fortune: the Taliban. One of the Afghan war's great ironies is that both NATO and the Taliban rely on the convoys to fuel their operations - a recipe for seemingly endless conflict. The U.S. military estimated last year that $360 million in U.S. tax dollars ended up in the hands of the Taliban, criminals and power brokers with ties to both. More than half the losses flowed through a $2.1 billion contract to truck huge amounts of food, water and fuel to American troops across Afghanistan.

Tenn. Legislator Kelly Keisling Mass-Emailed Obama 'Staged Assassination' Rumor 31 Jul 2012 A Republican member of the Tennessee state legislature emailed constituents Tuesday morning with a rumor circulating in conservative circles that President Barack Obama is planning to stage a fake assassination attempt in an effort to stop the 2012 election from happening. Rep. Kelly Keisling (R-Byrdstown) sent an email from his state email account to constituents containing a rumor that Obama and the Department of Homeland Security are planning a series of events that could lead to the imposition of martial law and delay the election. Among the events hypothesized in the email is a staged assassination attempt on the president that would lead to civil unrest in urban areas and martial law.

Obama authorizes secret U.S. support for Syrian 'rebels' 01 Aug 2012 President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for rebels foreign terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government, U.S. sources familiar with the matter said. Obama's order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence "finding," broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad. This and other developments signal a shift toward growing, albeit still circumscribed, support for Assad's armed opponents.

CIA drone strikes violate Pakistan's sovereignty, says senior diplomat 02 Aug 2012 One of Islamabad's most senior diplomats is warning that CIA drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal areas are weakening democracy and risk pushing people towards extremist groups. Wajid Shamsul Hasan, the high commissioner to London and one of Pakistan's top ambassadors, also accuses the US of "talking in miles" when it comes to democracy but "moving in inches". In an interview with the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Hasan, four years into his second stint in the post, argues that US drone strikes risk significantly weakening Pakistan's democratic institutions.

Court Upholds Domestic Drone Use in Arrest of American Citizen --A motion to dismiss charges based on the use of a Predator drone was denied Wednesday 02 Aug 2012 A North Dakota court has preliminarily upheld the first-ever use of an unmanned drone to assist in the arrest of an American citizen. A judge denied a request to dismiss charges Wednesday against Rodney Brossart, a man arrested last year after a 16-hour standoff with police at his Lakota, N.D., ranch. Brossart's lawyer argued that law enforcement's "warrantless use of [an] unmanned military-like surveillance aircraft" and "outrageous governmental conduct" warranted dismissal of the case, according to court documents obtained by U.S. News.

Britain secretly equipping Syrian 'rebels' with latest satellite phones to help topple Assad 04 Aug 2012 British officials are secretly equipping Syrian 'rebel' groups with satellite phones in a bid to topple President Bashar al-Assad. The phones, used by the Ministry of Defence, are designed for rugged environments and are shock, dust and water resistant. Whitehall sources also confirmed the Foreign Office is teaching negotiation and 'stabilisation' skills to opposition leaders, and advising on how to address the Syrian people and international audiences.

Senior al-Shabab official Sheikh Muhammad Talal Daahir told the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu that the drone went down on Saturday. Leftover GMO corn stubs 'a field of little spears' wreaking havoc on tires 02 Aug 2012 Corn modified (genetically modified organisms) to stand tall and tough against pests is also wreaking havoc on tractor tires. Mark Newhall of Farm Show Magazine tells American Public Media's Marketplace that after the stalks are cut during harvest, the leftover stubs are like "having a field of little spears." So instead of tractor tires lasting the usual five to six years, they're getting chewed up after just one or two years. One tractor tire can cost thousands of dollars, and some tractors have as many as eight tires. How does a modern farmer fight back against a genetically modified enemy intent on destroying the very thing his business rides on? The same way our military defends against its enemies: Kevlar. [Make no mistake about it: Monsanto is the enemy of mankind.]

Obama is considering executive-order option on cybersecurity 04 Aug 2012 Senate Republicans recently blocked cybersecurity legislation, but the issue might not be dead after all. The White House hasn't ruled out issuing an executive order to strengthen the nation's defenses against cyber attacks if Congress refuses to act.

Witness: 4 Men Dressed in Black Opened Fire on Congregation Posted by sharlenemusiclover 05 Aug 2012 An eyewitness to the Sikh temple shooting in Wisconsin says that a team of four men, "four white males dressed darkly" carried out the massacre, contradicting the official narrative that a lone gunman was the culprit. (Video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSvex9GYPlc

Shooting suspect was US Army psy-ops specialist: Pentagon 06 Aug 2012 The gunman suspected of attacking a Sikh temple in Wisconsin and killing six people was a former US Army "psychological operations specialist," the Pentagon said Monday. Wade Michael Page, who was himself shot dead by police during the incident, was a 40-year-old who had served between April 1992 and October 1998, ending his career at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He received his basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma before being moved to Fort Bliss in Texas. Fort Bragg, where he finished his career, is home to many of the US Army's airborne units and its Special Operations Command.

New York Times complains to police over treatment of photographer 06 Aug 2012 The New York Times has complained to the city's police department after one of its photographers said he was assaulted by officers who arrested him on Saturday. Robert Stolarik, a freelance photographer, claimed a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer "slammed" his camera into his face before he was dragged to the ground, kicked and arrested. Stolarik was on assignment with two other reporters in the Bronx when he was stopped by police on Saturday evening. Police ordered Stolarik to stop taking pictures of a teenage girl being arrested. When he refused, an officer reputedly grabbed Stolarik's camera and dragged him to the ground.

James Holmes's Psychiatrist Contacted University Police Weeks Before Movie-Theater Shooting - ABC News 06 Aug 2012 The psychiatrist who treated suspected movie-theater shooter James Holmes made contact with a University of Colorado police officer to express concerns about her patient's behavior several weeks before Holmes' alleged rampage, sources told ABC News. The sources did not know what the officer approached by Dr. Lynne Fenton did with the information she passed along. They said, however, that the officer was recently interviewed, with an attorney present, by the Aurora Police Department as a part of the ongoing investigation of the shooting. Fenton would have had to have serious concerns to break confidentiality with her patient to reach out to the police officer or others, the sources said.

NYPD Unveils Crime- and Terror-Fighting 'Domain Awareness System' 08 Aug 2012 A dramatic new way to track criminals and potential terrorists [facilitate false flags] was unveiled Wednesday by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. It melds cameras, computers and data bases capable of nabbing bad guys before they even know they’re under suspicion. If a suspicious package is left at a location by a terrorist, the NYPD will be able to instantly tap into video feeds to look back in time to see who left it there, and that's just one of the many tasks the NYPD's new high-tech "Domain Awareness System" can do, CBS 2 reported.

Army Tests Spy Blimp Over NJ 09 Aug 2012 The Army is testing its $517 million spy blimp in the skies over the New Jersey military base where the German airship Hindenburg crashed in 1937. [Hopefully, the spy blimp will go the same route.] The Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle spent more than 90 minutes around Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Ocean County on Tuesday. Manufacturer Northrop Grumman says the 302-foot long airship is designed to be a high altitude observation platform. It can be operated by a crew or by remote control.

Rand Paul: Government spied on Americans 'gazillions' of times 09 Aug 2012 Does the government really peer into the personal business of everyone in America? According to Judge Andrew Napolitano, Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) has put the number of instances that the feds have spied on Americans in the "gazillions." In a column published this week by the frequent cable news commentator, Judge Napolitano explains that members of Congress are barred from quoting certain statistics disclosed during secret security briefing, so Sen. Paul has reportedly relayed the actual information as accurately as he can without providing a real number. Gazillion, suggests Napolitano, is close enough.

France deploys troops to Syria-Jordan border 09 Aug 2012 France has sent troops to the Syrian border with Jordan amid reports of escalating foreign support for the insurgents fighting the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. France said its soldiers have been deployed to 'help refugees' in the border area. On Monday, the spokeswoman for the so-called Syrian National Council (SNC), Bassma Kodmani, singled out Saudi Arabia and Qatar among the countries providing arms for the insurgents.
