Less School
« on: April 29, 2003, 02:23:25 pm »

Some time ago I decided that, when I have children, I will teach them literacy and math skills, and then encourage them to skip school.  I wasn't certain why until I read this surprisingly perceptive essay:

http://www.paulgraham.com/nerds.html

It's long, but you won't regret reading it all.

I get a lot of fun out of the fact that my decision provokes stunned responses from teachers and non-libertarians, people who frequently agree after the explanation.  Yet the Free State, should it succeed, would make the extreme course unnecessary by providing, not just private schools, but real schools.
