Upcoming NH Trip
« on: August 06, 2008, 12:34:39 pm »

Hi everyone!

We were coming back from a trip to Canada a couple weeks ago and out of nowhere, my wife said, "Hey...let's go check out New Hampshire one weekend."

Now, a couple times I brought up NH and she wasn't very warm to the idea.  We'd both like to stay close to family, but none of them are interested in being anywhere north of the Mason-Dixon, which is fine.

Anyway, to the point - she's curious about NH and neither one of us have been there.  I was looking online and found a little road trip we can make soon and was wondering if it was a good intro or not.

We don't have anymore vacation time, so we have to squeeze it into 2 days.  I liked what I have seen on the Kancamagus Byway between Lincoln and Conway.  We're coming from the Socialist State of NJ and we'd start off in Lincoln, drive through to Conway, and then down to Portsmouth where we'd spent the rest of the weekend into Sunday evening before heading back home.

Some nature, some civilization - any recommendations for Portsmouth?  Should we avoid it?  Is it friendly to the FSP mindset?

Thanks,
Jason

The Kancamagus is a beautiful drive.  There's a river along a portion of it, if you want to take a swim.

Portsmouth is a city, and more socialist than some other areas, but not as bad as some places.  You can also head towards Concord if you take 202 west from Rochester.  You might be able to find crash space at Little Minnesota, if you wanted to save some money.  I don't know if they have space for guests available, but they often do.

There are plenty of nice things to do in the Seacoast area.  There's a winery and distillery in Lee, for example.  Concord is interesting, and you can go find the governor's two reserved on-street parking spaces (still more than he deserves, but probably a big difference from the perks he would get in NJ).  We have a bunch of lakes in the Northwood-Deerfield area, if the outdoors are your thing.  I'll let some others post different options...

We are not civilized because we are armed; we are armed because we are civilized..
