Final Cut in States
« on: August 31, 2002, 04:11:43 pm »

The final cut in the number of states under consideration has been made. Barring unforeseen circumstances, this principle will govern the design of the ballot for the membership vote: "All states under 1.5 million population at the time of the membership vote will be included on the ballot for the vote, excepting Hawaii and Rhode Island, which have been eliminated outright for their big-government tendencies." Currently, that means these ten states are under consideration: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Delaware. It is extremely unlikely that any of these states will go above 1.5 million population and be eliminated before the vote, which of course takes place when we reach 5000 signatures. You can view the minutes for the Research Committee meeting that made this determination here:
"Educate your children, educate yourselves, in the love for the freedom of others, for only in this way will your own freedom not be a gratuitous gift from fate. You will be aware of its worth and will have the courage to defend it." --Joaquim Nabuco (1883), Abolitionism
