Title: NH says NO to statism in elections Tuesday!
Post by: George Reich on November 06, 2002, 06:19:43 am
Democratic NH gubernatorial candidate Mark Fernald's income tax plan turned out to be a major disaster for him and for the rest of the New Hampshire's Democrats. Outraged New Hampshirites turned out in record numbers to hand Fernald's Republican Opponent a 59 - 39% victory. Libertarian John Babiarz picked up 3%.

But the punishment didn't stop there! The rest of New Hampshire's Democrats were apparently found guilty by association. NH's two Republican US house candidates won by similar margins. Even the personable and popular former governor, Jeanne Shaheen, went down with the same sinking ship in her bid for US senate, losing by a much wider than expected margin to John E. Sununu.

But things were most spectacular in the New Hampshire legislative elections! Republicans picked up five or six seats in the NH state senate, increasing their 13 - 11 margin to either 18 - 6 or 19 - 5 (one race is still too close to call). Look at the poor Democrats weeping in this link:

In the NH house, Republicans seem to have won at least 280 out of 400 seats, and probably closer to 300, but of course the totals in the NH house election are never known exactly until several days after the election.

To ice the cake, the Republicans won EVERY SINGLE single seat on the executive council! By the way, do any of the other candidate states have an executive council? It is a wonderful part of NH's government and a good check on the power of the chief executive.

New Hampshire's voters have spoken loudly and clearly - NO INCOME TAX, THANK YOU.

I was up too late last night and am too tired to say anything but WOW (!!) right now. But, that is a huge WOW! I guess we showed everyone what happens when you mention an income tax in New Hampshire.

The "good" news kind of happened country wide. Republicans now control the US government, unchecked I might add.
