Title: Who's a good computer game programmer in the freedom community?
Post by: RidleyReport on July 11, 2013, 02:28:06 pm
Seeking recommendations.  Who's a good computer game programmer in the freedom community?  Preferably NH-based. Why do you recommend them?  Cavaet:  The MineThings.com guy is unavailable.

What kind of games or languages are you thinking of?

How elaborate are you thinking?

Have you thought about platform? Pc, mobile, etc?

Thanks for the replies.  Whatever the most common denominator is... I want it to work on whatever system is most commonly owned and which I own.  I assume that would probably be Windows PC with eventual mobile compatability.   You can tell from the link the current degree of simplicity.  I don't really care what language.     Here's the link that explains the game's initial prototype version:

Tried to upload attachment and I recieved the msg:
"Cannot access attachments upload path!"

so...
According to this chart, mobile is on the rise and will rival desktops as means of accessing the internet very soon.

Mr. Ridley,

I read through your ideas on the other forum.

How to make $$? maybe a subscription service like the game Eve. Eve is created and maintained by CCP out of Iceland.

It would seem far more elaborate than what you are proposing. However I can attest people do pay to play yet these players revile any attempt to allow players to purchase skills/items that significantly change the balance of the game. Though CCP seems to be making $$.

I am not clear on what your goals are, immediately vs longterm.

I'm a good programmer, and I have many years' experience testing and critiquing games. However, I do not have enough experience in internal game development to be able to lead a game project.

If you have a tech lead, then I can join. After one development cycle, I could probably lead others (I've taken the lead on other kinds of SW projects. Let me know when you have investors willing to pay $60/hr for me to work at home or $70 to temporarily relocate to NH (with an eye toward settling in permanently).

I read the game description at the link you posted. I don't quite see the connection to freedom or "Free State" indicated by the title.  Maybe you can tell us more.

HEY, RIDLEY!
If you make a game, I'll play it!

The most common platform for games is, believe it or not, PHONES!
Yep, casual gamaing is THE MOST popular format of gaming today.
Many small startup game makers start out making independent games at this level.
PYTHON is a great, intuitive language to learn at first and many games are scripted in Python (others have advantages too!)

I'm looking to make games myself!
Liberty/Homeschool style!
Good luck!  Can't wait to see what you come up with!
