Title: 2013 Speaker Ideas
Post by: Toowm on May 16, 2012, 12:59:37 pm
Just to get this started, saw this on the LRC Blog today:

http://www.freelakotabank.com/accounts.asp

Not sure who to invite as a speaker, but Russell Means would be great, whether or not he is connected to the bank.

Wayne Allyn Root is a great speaker.

A speaker from the Lakota Bank would be good, I agree.

If we are voting then John Cochrane from Chicago Booth would also be an excellent speaker, beyond his excellent economics work he has had an on-going very amusing feud with Krugman for some time now (see one such article http://faculty.chicagobooth.edu/john.cochrane/research/papers/ecaf_2077.pdf). http://faculty.chicagobooth.edu/john.cochrane/

Also a Chiacgo, but probably much harder to get, is Gary Becker who is a Nobel laureate, as well as a vast number of other prizes ans awards, and has written a number of fantastic pro-liberty papers looking at things such as drug reform and paid organ markets. http://home.uchicago.edu/gbecker/

Another great speaker would be David Friedman, son of Milton. http://daviddfriedman.blogspot.com/

Didn't we have David Friedman not long ago?

The MN LP had Russell Means some time around 2000 and he was pretty good.

David D. Friedman, Peter Leeson, Jeffrey Miron, and Bradley Jardis.  They can save the world. ;D

Is Todd Newton in favor of liberty? The only political issue I saw in the wikipedia entry was about fighting global warming. I thought maybe he was just saying he would help without really understanding the FSP, because people were following him on twitter.

I recommend inviting the chair of the New Hampshire Republican Liberty Caucus,
the chair of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party,
the chair of the New Hampshire Republican House Alliance,
the chair of the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance,
the head of NH Common Sense,
the head of the NH chapter of Americans for Prosperity
and the head of the NH chapter of Campaign for Liberty. I would like them to talk about legislative actions in 2011-2012 and the 2013-2014 agenda. If they, want, I'd love to hear of possible long term gains.

Maybe do the same thing for NH liberty media, both print and spoken.

Maybe also with people working with charities or creating alternate structures.

I want to know what people in positions of power in NH think is possible to achieve in the next 2 years and hopefully, long term. I want to know some ideas they have on how to reach those goals.

I think this could help, realistically, sell NH to some people.

I know many of these things have been talked about at past Liberty Forums. I don't think we have had several of these people talk before, though. I don't remember any Campaign for Liberty or AFP speakers. Maybe those groups could also be sponsors?

I don't think there is such a thing as a long term gain.

Wouldn't mind Adam Kokesh. Or Stefan Molyneux again. I like Dr. Keith Smith's blog but I am not sure he would be a great speaker.

IMO if it is an economist, he/she should be an Austrian, not Chicago school.

Adam would be good. He has said something about New Hampshire before.

Also SC Tom Davis would be good. Maybe Justin Amesh

Adam is at Porcfest over and over again. He did a whole week in Keene co-hosting FTL while Ian was in jail. He was at both of the New England Liberty Love Fests. He also spoke at a recent rally in MA. I am just not sure how good he would be at attracting people. If anyone in New England wanted to see him, they would have seen him in the last couple years.

Of course, if he charged very little to speak at LF, that might be something to consider.

If Gary Johnson is going to make a run again in 2016 like he said he was I'd like to see him. Some people at Porcfest last year were rabid Johnson fans to the point of some hearing them say "why are they gonna waste their vote on Paul when Johnson is on the ballot in 47 states, LOL.

Jesse Ventura is good entertainment.

He seemed to interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRn9ySc-RDM&feature=youtu.be) well so I think he has potential as a speaker. Also, to me, this healthcare debacle is a huge issue and hearing from one of the few liberty-oriented physicans who is successfully practicing free market healthcare seems quite relevant to FSP.

Some personal favourites that would be really cool to see:

Simon Black (http://www.sovereignman.com/simon-black/) - a la Jeff Berwick except I think this guy is a much more serious business man and is starting a resilient community in Chile.
Doug Casey (http://www.caseyresearch.com/our-staff/doug-casey) - pretty well known anarchist investment writer
John Robb (http://www.resilientcommunities.com/about/) - I think he lives in MA - wrote several books on the future of warfare and small autonomous communities

Oh, well. I suggested Russell Means at the start of this thread, but he just died. I wish his obits mentioned some of his recent secession activism.

Jack Spirko from the Survival Podcast.  Spoke in 2012(missed it sadly) he's been giving free ad spots to the FSP all year, and advocates for Libertarian principles and the FSP regularly and effectively.

To mix up the Molyneux group think a bit (always healthy I think) I had added and removed Ryan Faulk. Not sure what to make of him. He has some very good insights and such a young guy. He has caused some controversy though and does focus a lot on race, which has drawn ire. Juan Sebastian Ortiz may also be good there though he lives in Costa Rica.

Also David Harriman might be real interesting: on how physics has been distorted by nihilism and how that has harmed science. David is an objectivist. One counter theory to the nihilist-embraced quantum mechanics/general relativity is by Lewis Little, who seems to have a proponent. Dr. Jeffrey Boyd, that lives in CT looking to promote his work. So may be of interest. Here is his site: elwave.org/videos

Yeah, I've really enjoyed some of Ryan's discussions on statism and anarchism but his obsession with race and how it keeps coming up is disturbing and unfortunate.
