Title: 2012 Liberty Forum/Single Issue
Post by: Dreepa on July 17, 2011, 06:55:10 pm
Put the name down of some good 'Issue' speakers that you might want to hear at the 2012 Liberty Forum.

2 rules of this thread:
1.  No debating/etc... I will delete those posts... just talk about the 'Issue' speakers you would be interested in.
2.  No repeats. If they spoke at LF before.... chances are they won't be speaking in 2012.

What about having one of the Vermont secessionists speak? Kirkpatrick Sale, Thomas Naylor, or another. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Vermont_Republic)

They'll definitely be leftists, but they've been at this independence game longer than we have and they might even become allies against Washington someday. (They have neat t-shirts that say "US Out of VT".)

Whenever these come up, I always seem to think of Dick Cheatham (http://www.lhaltd.com/speakers/cheatham/characters.html). But he'd be better for something like a home/unschool track for the kids of the attendees. Which is a thought: why not have a showcase of educational alternatives?

Sorry if this is a thread hijack.

I don't know all the guys who have spoken before but here are issues that might be good,

secession
end the fed
homeschooling
vouchers/charter schools
copyrights/IP

Tom Naylor spoke in 2010.

I will add Mr Sale to the list of possible.

We had an education track in 2009 capped by John Taylor Gatto... but I will add Mr Cheatam to list of possibles.

Looking for any names you find.

oh yea
people liked the federal income tax talks by Michelle and others a couple of years ago.
you can always find a constitutional scholar for that sort of stuff too
how about one of our 3 name guys from the forums? they could represent all of the know-it-all NHerites that instruct the freedom movement, but are afraid to do anything themselves. We could have one in person. :)

I like the idea of inviting local secessionists. I think it should be broadened (multiple speakers on the subject, from multiple 'states').

I suggest secession reps from VT, ME, Quebec, and (if you can find them) Nova Scotia and New Foundland.
Lets start a discussion on Novo Arcadia!

PS I'll help find these folks. We need to start networking with them.

Yeah!

Perhaps someone from the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (http://www.aims.ca/en/home/default.aspx) which proposed that Northern New England and the Canadian Maritimes actually form a coherent cultural region that could exist independently. See http://www.atlantica.org/en/home/default.aspx.

Just be sure not to invite any racists, like Sebastian Ronin of Novacadia, and it's best to stay away from the League of the South as well.

I've mentioned Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms before. He couldn't do it in the past, but maybe this time?

How about Glenn Greenwald, if he's not too pricey?

Adam Smith scholar James Otteson has some good lectures up his sleeve, & I'm pretty sure he'd be interested.

John Papola is a sharp guy that presents very well. He's not an econ expert, but he'll have plenty interesting to say about his rap videos.

Joel Salatin would be great!

What about James Howard Kuntsler? He lives in Saratoga Springs, so it's an easy trip. And visiting New Hampshire as a kid inspired him to write his "Geography of Nowhere" on the plight of suburbia.

Plus I think he might benefit from meeting some real-life libertarians.

Tarrin Lupo would be fantastic! I seasoned agorist, activist now author, he has plenty of topics he can cover from self-publishing, to agorism and black market biz know-how, and more.  He is a member of FSP and is a vendor at Porcfest.

A food track with Salatin at the end would be great.  Some others:

Sally Fallon, Mary Enig, Weston A. Price Foundation (http://www.westonaprice.org/ (http://www.westonaprice.org/))
Kristen Michaelis (http://www.foodrenegade.com/ (http://www.foodrenegade.com/))

Perhaps:
Ronnie Cummings (Anti-Monsanto: http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_22240.cfm (http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_22240.cfm))

It would be cool to have someone speak about raw milk.

Related:
Shannon Hayes (http://radicalhomemakers.com/lecturesworkshops/ (http://radicalhomemakers.com/lecturesworkshops/))

If a track like this makes sense I'd call Weston Price, and also ask Salatin, for recommendations to fill it out.

A panel on different diet approaches might work too.  Paleo, Low Carb, Raw, Traditional, etc.

Russell said the main issues I would like to see, but there's others.

Perhaps someone who can speak on historical anarcho-capitalist societies like Medieval Iceland and the Wild West. Someone who knows the history and who could tell us how that same kind of society could work in NH today.

I would like to see people who moved to NH with the FSP share their experiences moving.

If there is a food subtopic (I don't think a this view vs. that view panel would be productive), here are some more ideas. Sorry these are all low carby, but that's the diet that's keeping me healthy:

Dr. Richard K. Bernstein, author of Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution (unlikely to travel)
Someone from Weston A. Price Foundation; I think they might do free outreach
Gary Taubes, author of Good Calories, Bad Calories and Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It
Mark Sisson (paleo), author and blogger at Mark's Daily Apple

All great ideas - but Chris is actually wrapping up the speakers now. :(

Peter Schiff was just announced as Friday keynote... way cool... and makes me realize I should have signed up for the meals so I could hear him at dinner (if you aren't signed up for the meals can you still listen to the speaker?)

Yes, the 3-Day Pass allows access to ALL speakers - AND the Schiff Investment Seminar.

If for some reason - you decide you want to upgrade that 3-Day Pass to a VIP Pass.....msg me and we'll take care of that for you. :)
