Title: Total Costs of attending Liberty Forum? Transportation questions.
Post by: patientliberty7 on December 13, 2009, 09:43:56 pm
How much do rooms @ the hotel cost? Food?

Furthermore, I don't drive. I hate the traffic, the stress of dealing with idiots on the road; what can I do about transportation from the airport? To the airport? To the Liberty Forum even!

I believe the rooms are about $90 a night with a LF discount.  Food if you get the whole package is included although some meals are an additional cost I believe. There are restaurants and a grocery store in walking distance if you don't want to pay for un included meals.  The hotel operates a shuttle bus from/to the Manchester airport. Alternatively Boston Express bus operates from Boston and stops in Nashua fairly close to the Crown Plaza.

What about the shooting range? I have no gun or license, nor any experience with a weapon. Guess that counts me out?

... a license for a gun? Ha. New Hampshire isn't Maryland.

Okay, but I don't have a gun or training using one. Where does that leave me?

Depends where they're are going.

If you want to fire a couple of rounds, take some cash. Be nice. Make friends. Consider purchasing one. Some ranges have firearms that you can "rent". Again, I don't know where you'd be going.

Training? What's stopping you? Safe firearm handling is not the same as marksmanship. Even boyscouts are easily basically trained in handling. You can learn a great deal online (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUtqZ-xjVo4) if you're so motivated. It's not the same as holding the firearm in your hands and getting a sense of the mass and locations of the various parts, but it's a step ahead. Some places won't let you shoot unless you've had some basic safety instruction. Many offer it on-site.

Last year, the fee included borrowed firearms and ammo.  An instructor was available for beginners.  I don't know the numbers, but my impression was that plenty of people there had neither a gun nor training.

Years past were held at a place where rentals were available.  However, the link on registration points to the same location as last year's event.   So I would expect the same deal as before.  Your fee should cover ammo and use of the range, and instruction will be available.

Non-NH residents cannot buy handguns in New Hampshire.

Non-NH residents cannot buy handguns in New Hampshire.

It's practically illegal to think about a handgun here in the faux free state, so that'd necessarily limit a purchase to something else.

... 'course I guess one could always just become a resident and never move back...

We will have TRAINED and QUALIFIED trainers at the range.
We have people who LOVE to introduce 'newbies' to the SAFE, FUN, and PROPER way to handle firearms.
Last year there were DOZENS of people who had never fired a gun before.
The firearm and ammo will be included in the $20 fee.

I think most of your other questions were answered.
For the shuttle just call the hotel about a week before you fly in and tell them your flight time and they will pick you up.

Meals included at the LF one price:

Thursday night  apps
Friday lunch
Saturday lunch
Saturday dinner
Sunday Brunch

the Friday dinner is an OPTIONAL fundraising dinner.

Dreepa is right.  You do not need to have a gun to attend the shoot at Liberty Forum.
We have quite a few people who have never held a firearm in their life each year.

I will be running the shooting event.  I love new shooters.   ;D
We have quite a few people who have never held a firearm in their life each year.
Most of them do very well.  We even have a few who join us every year.
We will go over safety and how to shoot.  There will also be plenty of instructors on the range to help you.

There will be a shuttle bus leaving the hotel to and from the range.
We are having a morning and an afternoon shoot so please be on time.
There are only 60 spaces for the shooting event so register early.
The $20.00 includes ammo, the target.  We will have a nice selection of guns to try.
We will have semi auto hand guns, revolvers, and .22 LR rifles to try.
Looking forward to meeting you.
Kate

Food?

If you're not paying the all-inclusive price for meals at the hotel, and don't want to pay hotel restaurant prices, here are some dining options within 1-block walking distance:

-- Five Guys Burgers and Fries
-- 7-Eleven
-- Olivia's Pizza
-- Cedar's Cafe (Mediterraean, has felafels, schwarmas, etc.)
-- Applebee's
-- Boston Market
-- Market Basket - a full-size grocery store with pre-cooked items like chicken

If you're willing to walk two-three blocks, there's also

-- McDonald's
-- a Thai restaurant
-- Bertucci's - pizza, Italian
-- a Chinese restaurant
-- a doughnut shop

Um, yeah, I spend a lot of time in the vicinity of the Crowne Plaza   :P

I look forward to meeting you, too, Kate!

I got the 'all inclusive' ticket.  Does this mean I'm already registered for your event?  If not, please consider this my 'official' request to participate.

Let me know what else you need from me.

We'll have some catered eats in the AltExpo suite on the 2nd floor, for the light meals and munchies - all New-Hampshire made beverages, too!
