In our pre-election interview he did say his "plans haven't changed", in reference to his plan to move to NH pending failure in TX.

It would be awfully nice if he could sign First 1K NOW, and spread the word to LPers that he has done so.  Maybe we should all send him nice emails.   :)

I wish the First1000 had a two year horizon, so we could make him sign THAT.

It does have a two-year horizon.

Hi Jason, met you at porcfest.  See you in Feb.

I believe we have six weeks left to get 2/5ths of pledges needed:
Quote
Deadline to sign up by: 31st December 2006
566 people have signed up, 433 more needed

This is front page on the pledge signup.  The liberty forum will be too late.

Gotcha - I misunderstood. We could certainly call him up now & try to get him to sign up. Realistically, though, he needs to stay in NYC (or LA or wherever) to do 20/20.

I thought this threadlet was about Badnarik, not Stossel -- unless Mike has signed a contract that I hadn't heard about.

Bleh, I think you just lost a lot of listeners.  His performance (especially compared to spending) was horrible in the Texas election.
He's lost credibility with many as a result.

I think you just lost a lot of credibility as an election analyst. At least where Texas is concerned.

Not according to those who follow LP politics.  Go read HammerofTruth, thirdpartywatch, or just google for it, plenty of people have run the numbers and figured out how much it cost him per vote, for example.  I don't blame Badnarik _directly_ for this, most of the fault lies with Allen Hacker, but Badnarik, just as in 2004, has to take some responsibility for his choice in managers.

Disclaimer and background: I worked on a variety of LP campaigns this year, including TX-22 among others, doing webmastering, fundraising, press release writing, and more.  I did not work on the Badnarik campaign this year, though I was involved in 2004.  I have personally dealt with Michael, he's listed in my cell phone, and I was the one responsible for his appearance at PorcFest 2005, including picking him up at Logan.

The main reason the LP doesn't win more races is not because of ballot access, lack of money, or bad choices.  It is because the majority of people (almost everywhere) want less freedom.  Badnarik will continue to lose in TX or likely anywhere he runs on the LP.  He is not a bad person and ran well.  I am sure all of the LP people you helped out this election (and likely ever) also lost.  None of fault of Badnarik losing lies with Allen Hacker, it all lies with the fact that Badnarik could never have won the district unless he got on the ballot as the Republican.

the truth of the matter is that the real reason is called "lesser evil voting"...no one wants to vote for a third party if it means they will cede power to the more evil of the two dominant parties.

the only way around this from a third party perspective is to:

a. insure that the policies and positions you stake out draw equally from left and right (not left social and right economic either!!).
b. worm you way into one party or the other and take it over like what happen to the whigs.
c. worm your way into both parties and split them both at the same time according to (a)

neither the Greens nor the Libertarians have the right - they should join forces and do (c).

Agreed except for one thing I want to make clear:
the Green party are socialist power-mongers who will destroy our freedoms and our wealth if given the chance

No way in damn hell I'd "join forces" with the Greens. Thank god I live in New Hampshire, where I don't have to :)

if you were a left libertarian you would have something to talk about with them...

it is funny because this is essentially what greens say about libertarians - just substitute "capitalist" for "socialist"

the reason there has never been a strong green party in the state is because the Democrats have been such a minority party here that no one wanted to split the "progressive" - maybe that will change things.

btw - wealth requires the input of labor whereas enclosing the commonwealth doesn't...it is granted via privilege.

Oh, Denis... you might join forces with the Greens if they want to help decriminalize pot, and they do.
