Nationwide Tax Day Protests
« on: March 14, 2005, 03:50:22 pm »

Hey all,

I don't know why I didn't post something to this effect earlier--maybe I'm in denial about the fact that April 15th is happening again.  But this is a huge day for small government people, and we should be organizing everywhere to protest the day when the government officially says, "What's yours is mine."  Let's get started right now.

Who do we need?  Local group leaders, people with contacts to anti-tax groups, people who just plain hate forking over their hard-earned money...  What can we do?  Anything--from putting up signs to running ads to handing out fliers, hanging banners, wearing t-shirts...  Anything that combines a hatred of taxation with our proposal to fix the problem: join the FSP.  We can't afford to let this day slip by quietly, not when we need to find 14,000 people who'll agree to take action.

Tax day is just one month away--it's enough time to pull things together, but just barely.  Who's with me?

Would you like your request sent to all the local groups, Kate?

I'd love it, Kat.  Thank you.   Smiley

As local group leader leader, you could really be the hub of some of this activity.  Do you have any ideas?

Hey Kate...Think your idea is a great one!  I believe we may still have a few thousand million dollar bills floating around somewhere.  If I remember correctly, they promoted the FSP and NH as a destination.  Can't recall if the info is dated, but it might be something to handout on tax day.  I'll make a few calls and see if I can track them down.

LOL...I'm a leader leader and participant participant.  I must stutter or something.

We're planning a tax protest in Manchester, but that's different from recruiting.  I do like the idea of a coordinated effort.  Maybe we could get a protest going in every state, even if it's only one person/state.  Be a nice press release if we could pull it off.

We need a good tax specific flyer and we need to be able to recruit volunteers from all over.  Maybe a message could be sent out on the FSP announce.  Maybe the AAA people would be interested in having a tax day protest/recruiting event be one of the projects the army is supposed to complete.

I'd be happy to write drafts of anything we might need.  You name it, I'll write it.

It would be fantastic to do really do this nationwide--even if we're spread thin.  AAA would be a great resource; local groups; other anti-tax groups folks could team up with...

Rich and I were talking about this last night, in fact.

He's got a big pile of "million dollar bills" with NHorBust.com on them... he'll send them (a large pile, 50-100, or more?) to anyone who want to hand them out...   I'm giving away part of the next upcoming assignment for AAA.. oh well (grin)

Whomever is taking the lead on this (Kate?), send me and Rich an email please?  Thanks!

Okay, great.  Let's get a to do list going here.

1 - Write draft tax flyer - Me - due Wednesday, March 16 Done!
2 - Get in touch with local group leaders - Kat? - due date? Done!
3 - Okay and send out message on general announce list - Me? - in progress, due Friday, March 18 Done!
4 - Talk to AAA folks regarding possible assignment help - Me - in progress Done!
5 - Contact anti-tax organizations to get information on planned protests - I can take national and DC ones, although I could certainly use some suggestions.  Maybe local group leaders or volunteers could get in touch with their own local organizations? - my part, due Friday, March 18

That's a start.  If I miss a due date, scream at me.  Grin

Yo, excuse me....Mr. Chairman....Jason...You will be in the Burg March 15th.  Perhaps you could help Ian, get something planned for the Burg.  My old home, and can tell you right up front, the folks down there are ripe for a bite of freedom! Wink

HELL YES.  Time for some coordinated effort.  The Suncoast Group is itching to have an event to capitalize on like this.  I'm old school at tax day protests.  I've done them solo for hours at a time.  Every time it's worth it.  If we had a whole CREW of porcs out there, it would be awesome.

I NEED a FSP golf/polo tee with a nice logo on it for this.  Where can I order one?

I think my best effort to promote and recruit for the FSP in my area will be to grow my new local libertarian group.  Libertarians everywhere long for more freedom and I think the FSP holds our best hope for it.   I want to make sure that every libertarian in my area knows about the FSP before I leave.

Here's the line-up for TAX DAY 2005 in Ithaca NY:

We're bringing Michael Badnarik to town for three days of Libertarian and FSP activities.  Michael is one of our best known participants and just recently made an endorsement of the FSP.  He's an enthusiastic FSP supporter.  Thanks for coming Mike!

4/14  - Badnarik debates Cornell Constitutional-expert professors
           about the Constitution
         - Cornell Libertarians - Badnarik speaks and social event
4/15  - 7-8am on WHCU radio - local talk/news station
         - Book signing at bookstore
         - Badnarik in tax rally on the main outdoor 'Ho Plaza' at Cornell
         - OPH booth, Ithaca Commons tax day rally with possible announcement
of new Taxpayer Coalition for Tompkins County!
         - Dinner with area libertarians and Freestaters
4/16  - Introduction to the Constitution class at Cornell 201 Warren Hall
         - FSP Dinner with Badnarik - intro to FSP by me, FSP speech by Mike
           restaurant: TBA
4/17  - tentative event with Cornell Libertarians

The details of the Commons rally/protest are still fuzzy in my mind.  We're in the planning stage with the Coalition pending.  The challenge is to bring people to the Commons to hear the message.

I can get the anti-tax flyers printed and sent out to groups holding the protests.  Sending out the request to the local groups now.
