Is salt used on snowy/icy roads in NH? And if so, how hard is it on cars? I know in places like Michigan it really takes its toll on car bodies and undercarriages. Just wondering if it's the same in NH.

NH is much like Michigan in that respect. Salt is used on the roads, and rust is a problem. Cars DO have better rust proofing now than before however. Lots of 10, 11, 12 year old cars still on the road.
I do not buy new cars. I currently own a 1987 Honda. My Honda is starting to show rust but it also has 187,000 miles. I bought it in January 2002 with 100,000 miles on it. I drive 600-700 miles a week. I have washed the car every week or two in the winter.
My wife has a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville. We just bought it last month. We traded her 1995 Chevy van for it. It is not age that I use as a criteria for buying a car but if the car is in good shape and will give me many more miles.
