a "hello" and some thoughts
« on: November 02, 2004, 11:27:36 pm »

Hello.  My name is Jason and I signed up with the FSP today.  I am quite enthusiastic about it and Libertarianism in general.  I look forward to someday moving to New Hampshire.  In the mean time, I am going to begin taking my own small steps to promote the FSP by posting flyers on my school's campus, talking to people, covering the back of my car with bumper stickers, etc.

What an opportunity the FSP presents.  Hard, maybe life-long work, no doubt, but what a great thing it is to have this unique movement.  It seems to me that the goals and principles are worthy of a life of dedication.  Am I the only one who feels dramatically inspired by the prospect of working to increase liberty?  I suppose that is a dumb question, but I think the passion of the FSP's participants is going to be the main force towards success.  I don't know a whole lot about the FSP's history, but I sense that it has been its main force towards success already.

It seems like most movements are interested in collecting people and ideas together in bins.  Here, we are from all walks of life, interested in allowing the conditions necessary to create a society of unheard of diversity and freedom.  We gather now so we can secure the blessings of liberty, and go our own ways down the road.

I don't know the attitudes of those of you who have been with the FSP for some time, but for those of you who may sometimes feel you are losing faith, it might be important to remember what you may have felt like when you got interested and joined up.  The FSP, as soon as it garners enough participants, with proper enthusiasm and dedication, is surely an adventure and cause of a lifetime.

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

Regards,
lobster

Welcome, Jason!

As another Free Stater in the DC-Baltimore area, I look forward to meeting you.

I share your excitement about working to increase liberty, as well as your long-term outlook on our mission. I want to encourage you to hang on to this excitement as your optimism waxes and wanes over the coming years. There will be ups and downs, but you're right that our passion will determine our success or failure over the long term.

Again, welcome, and I'm sure we will meet soon.

Jason,

Congradulations on your decision!  I look forward to working for true liberty with you.  For now, we must reach our goal.  Please educate yourself with the 101 Reasons document, and then find 3 new members!
Plus, check to see if there's a local group of FSPers near you to network with!

Good to have you with us!
