Think Tank in NH
« on: July 14, 2004, 11:13:28 am »

I've been thinking about a Think Tank in NH for Libertarian ideas. The Josiah Bartlett think tank exists here, but is not a completely Libertarian one. What if all of the FSPers were to donate $50 to create such a thing. 50 x 6000= 300,000. Quite a decent sum for start-up funding. It would be a source of info and an important prescence here in the Free State. Any thoughts?

Actually, a number of people are already working on that as we speak, through the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance.

Well, I'd still like to start a non-political thinktank/investment group that focuses on coordinating efforts to replace governmental social services with a private investment/consumer network.  But no one has been particularly receptive to my ideas, so I wonder if it ever happens Tongue

The services that need replacement are very broad, and require a multitude of strategies.  There really is no need for centralized direction.  If you have some great ideas for providing voluntary alternatives to social services, just start doing it.  No need to appoint a leader and a bureaucracy to coordinate it with everything else.

Robin , You could start your thinktank on your goodlife site. Did you name it after the early 70s British show about the couple that quit work to be self sufficient. It was called good neighbers in America but it was called The Good Life in England.

Actually the Good Life Guild IS my thinktank project, but I'm the only member ATM Tongue

I got the name simply because everyone's in search of "the Good Life"... however they define it Tongue

My problem is that I really do need help setting it up to support multiple members.  I don't have the skills to set up a decent forum, database of members, and legal structure.  I know enough to figure out how, but I have RSI (repetitive strain injuries) from too much computer work and a bad back;  I can brainstorm all I want but without the stamina to put it in a usable format it's all kinda lost.

I have no intention of starting a bureaucracy, I just want to offer an information service; a team of lawyers, techs, investors and other info staff backed up by a database of interested consumers and client companies.

The reason I set it up as a heirarchy at all is to maintain accountability; it's my guild and I'm accountable for it... as a service Tongue  I'm all about democratic management; but sometimes there is a decision to be made that can't be made by consensus or pledged consent; that would be my place in the organization.  I also have a very broad base of knowledge that allows me to think laterally... considering many aspects of tactical management (and I'm continually expanding that knowledge.)

Honestly, if anyone is really very interested in legally avoiding taxes, or digging ourselves out from under oppressive nationalistic structures, I'm working on this.  I was working on it before I joined the FSP (and joined to support this project.)  I really could use the help, and am willing to work for free even, if it will get it off the ground.  It really sucks to have ten zillion ideas, put them out there, and everyone is trying figure out how it WON'T work, rather than help make it work.

I'll give them away for free, if you want them.  I don't care.  I'll change the operating structure to anything that will work... but I do need input Tongue
