Tinted Windows Law
« on: June 14, 2004, 05:01:41 pm »

Just curious about what NH's laws are in regards to tinted windows?  In MA they are very strict about the tinting of the front windows and windshield.  I believe the legal limit is something like 30 something percent tinted.

Does anyone know what the legal limit in NH is for front windows and windshield?  Is there a law against it at all?  My friend who has, and enjoys, his illegally (in MA) dark tinted windows would like to know, thanks.

It looks like tinting of more than 35% is illegal in NH, unless you can prove you need it for medical reasons.

Two years ago here in central NY I had a beautiful LeSabre that I bought from FL with a slight purple tint - it was hot looking...well, the local cops hassled my 18 yr old son so many times about it that I finally called the chief of police.  This was my introduction to the maximum legal tint!  The dealer that I bought it from and the next two annual NY state inspections didn't require compliance with the tint law, but it was still illegal to drive it.  I have a friend who is a local cop in another town and he said that cops use tint as an excuse to stop people and check for alcohol, drugs or other 'potential' violations...  In my son's case they had him on their shit list and stopped him repeatedly.

I was forced to strip the film off the two side front windows and the car looked ridiculous until it died  Roll Eyes  I'll vote to change this NH law!!   Grin

While laws against tinting are stupid, so, is tinting that reduces one's ability to see clearly.
