Come to the Porcfest! Hang out with other Porcs. Hike, swim, rough it, breathe in essence of campfire and comradie.
But, wait!
One arm of our organization has asked that you stop what you're doing in the middle of all of this, wash off the campfire smoke, put on your good togs ( lets see, where in my backpack did I put my good suit?) and make a three hour round trip to go to dinner!
Why wasn't this planned on a different date or closer to Lancaster?

This might not be how it is offically discribed, but, that is what it is. In any case, this does not answer my question. P.S. This might not be how it is offically discribed, but, that is what it is. I just want everyone to be clear that the NHLA and the FSP are two separate organizations with no official connection between them. In any case, this does not answer my question.
Yes, I know. Hopefully a NHLA spokeperson will post an answer to your question. The Porcupine Festival planning committee (of which I am a member) had no involvement whatsoever with the planning of the NHLA dinner. You might also consider posting your question on the NHLA forum. P.S.

I'd say those latter two estimates are just about right. In retrospect, I should probably have held my tongue and try, next year, at making these two events coincide in a way, or place, that makes more sense. Lloyd |

No, actually, they were planned that way to build synergy. It makes perfect sense when you look at the detailed schedules. The main events at the Porc Fest are on Saturday. That is why the NHLA dinner was not planned for that day. There's very little happening Friday night at the Porc Fest; The dinner gives people an option that night if they want a break from camping, and a nice dinner for a good cause. Also, the week of the Porc Fest, there will be hundreds of liberty-lovers from around the country in state, and so the Porc Fest helps the NHLA dinner. The FSP is not political, but the people making it up are. This gives porcupines a chance to contribute to real-world politics to bring NH another step closer to the Free State, which brought us all here. Thus, the NHLA dinner helps the people attending the porc fest build networks and the resources needed for bringing about a free state. Can you picture a governor, worth $600M, coming to a campground? Nope. Me either. We COULD get him for a fundraiser dinner. Plus, people who want to attend the dinner ONLY have to come from Lancaster, not Texas, or Oregon or Vancouver. Having the dinner that week reduces traveling time for most people, not increases it. Plymouth was chosen because it is fairly centrally located in NH, so that most people can get there fairly easily. It is not only porcs who will be attending. We sent out a VERY directed, 2000 piece mailer to people around the state this week. Also, Plymouth is fairly close to Concord, which made it easier for us to get the governor to speak. We also got a HECK of a deal on the hall.... Believe me, the organizers of the dinner and the porc fest spent a good deal of time trying to find the best arrangement to build synergy and avoid conflict. NOW.... The NHLA and the FSP are two seperate organizations with no formal ties. But, the NHLA was organized as a political organization, promoting the same goals as most members of the FSP hold dear. The FSP is designed to get 20k liberty-lovers to move to NH. The NHLA is designed to provide those members, and liberty-lovers already in NH, a mechanism to bring about libertarian change in the state. Hope to see you at the dinner. It should be a blast. The carpool idea is already being discussed somewhere on these boards, and would probably come together regardless on Friday evening as everybody prepared to leave. This dinner is going to have a lot of great speakers, good food, and some liberty-friendly legislators in attendance. If I'm not mistaken there is access to bathrooms and showers at the campground, so we'll all have a chance to clean up before the big show.
