"Junk Science" Movement Orchestrated by PR Firms!

Public health professionals need to be aware that the "sound science" movement is not an indigenous effort from within the profession to improve the quality of scientific discourse, but reflects sophisticated public relations campaigns controlled by industry executives and lawyers whose aim is to manipulate the standards of scientific proof to serve the corporate interests of their clients.

This is revealed by industry documents made public during the tobacco lawsuits (http://www.pmdocs.com ) and further exposed by Bill Moyers' PBS expose Trade Secrets.

Lying on this scale is nothing less than massive fraud, and the lives lost, by the promotion these frauds, are lives lost to an initiation of force against the citizenry of this country, and indeed the citizens of the entire planet.

How is a "public heath professional" (I use the term loosely) supposed to get grant money and make a name for themselves if they prove that something DOESN'T lead to cancer?  You also have to consider the source of their funding, since Government and NGO's have their own agenda as well!

Being a scientist, I'm skeptical of both sides until I apply a little reason to the conclusions of their research, but in this time in history, the junk seems pervasive in the environmental movement, and therefore medicine.

I freely admit that there is much pseudo-science on BOTH SIDES of the environmental debate.  The pro-ACS side is better funded, though. Smiley
