Coos County - Rural West in North NH
« on: October 16, 2003, 09:18:40 am »

Seriously, westerners who are moving to New Hampshire anyway should look twice or thrice at Coos (pronounced Co-awse) County.  I'm not joking or being sarcastic toward the west like some others here have been. I live in rural, mountain, non-resort Colorado.

I'll back up my suggestions with information and data later in this thread but, first, check this out.
Zack, you especially should check this out since you have posted that you're considering making the town of Dalton your new home.
The Dalton Gang
http://www.greatnorthwoods.org/daltongang/19990619/

The Dalton Gang is a western style cowboy action shooting club in Dalton, NH. It was founded officially in 1998 at the Mooney house in Dalton.

Another link:

and more fun at:

The rest of this page of posts is intended for general info.

On page two I get serious with more stats and numbers than many may like but which are the bottom line in political activism.

Yes.  But only if enough other libertarian types move there too.

Someone must lead them. Smiley

Joe, all of your posts on Coos County are leading me to consider that area.

Anybody have any prices on land in Coos County? price per acre, or 100 acres or 1000 acres? thanks

Prices seem to vary quite a bit, but I've seen quite a few 5-10 acre lots in the $4000-$7000 per acre range.  Larger parcels will be less of course.  jnoyes may have the right idea with the White Mountain Land Club to bring that price per acre down a lot further.  I like to use the NNEREN site to get an overview of the land available.  It doesn't list everything available, but it provides links to the RE agents where you can find other parcels for sale.

Thanks for info.

Anyone think along the lines of a new  incorporated town in that area? ex; buy up 500 to 1000 acres and start a township, selling to FSP members or at least like minded persons.

If your looking for something inexpensive, and would like to get to know the area before buying a large lot, or expensive land, I would suggest buying a house in Berlin.  I've worked there for the last couple of years, and I've found the people to be really nice.  I can't believe how inexpensive the houses are.  Yes there is the paper mill, and depending on where you buy in the city you may get the smell, but you do get used to it.  The majority of the people have lived there most of their lives.  They usually move out to go to college, and come back to raise their family.
