Actually I translated it by hand although I have to say I've never seen some of these forms of speech used before so the translations could be slightly inaccurate. Plus I only have about 8 months of French studying under my belt so that didn't help. The "militants" garbage should be rescinded immediately, IMO. And where the hell did they pull this "near President Bush" garbage from? Most libertarians despise Bush. I despise almost all Republicans and Democrats for that matter. So few people understand libertarianism. sigh Regarding the overall feeling this article was designed to create, I have one thing to say: This guy has NO idea how much energy there is behind this movement. Neither does the "professor". And neither does anyone else for that matter! They won't know what's about to happen until it's too late for them. By then the entire world will have changed. Someday these people will wake up, smell the coffee, join us, and demand freedom from their OWN government! Who will be laughing then?

My favorites: "Ulcerated even by the existence of the government" "notching the Republican vote" "the cogency of our ideas"
Yep. I had to use Altavista on a few words and phrases because I don't have my dictionary handy... Oh well!

I don't think that after 8 months I could have gotten through a French kindergarten report, let alone a news article. Of course, that was high school French, so it wasn't exactly accelerated.

Yep. Once you learn SDL (Self-Directed Learning) you can learn anything independently and very quickly. Rather than a university course, I just bought pronunciation tapes, two grammar books, a verb conjugation book, two dictionaries, and a novel. Just buy the above books and all you need to do is immerse yourself in TV, radio, Internet, written and spoken conversation, reading, debate, manual translation, etc.

That's very true. The degree of immersion is key. I certainly didn't have that as a 12 year old in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have a lifetime goal of studying 10 languages. So far, I've studied English, French, Spanish, Russian, and Arabic, in declining order of competency. I definitely want to add German, Japanese, Mandarin, and Romanian. I'm not sure about the tenth. Coincidentally, I ran into my high school teacher for "French I" this morning at McDonald's on my way to work.

Okay, HOLD YOUR HORSES for a second people. Don't make any phone calls to La Presse yet! LOL "Militants" is the French word for "militants" AND "activists"! See, this is why I should never translate without using my dictionary. hahaha

Well, at least I got ONE good sound bite in.... ""We are neither from the right nor the left," says a defender of the project, James Maynard. "We want elected officials to cease interfering in our lives and concentrate on the essential tasks of the government: police, fire department, and courts."" But I'm not sure I want to "march" into a state.... Maybe a slow, easy drive... Defender? JM

As usual, I say we benefit from bad press as long as it is not bad press inside the Free State.
It helps keep nanny staters *out* of the FS.
