August 05. 2012 10:41PM 'Copblock' wiretap case goes to court in Manchester http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120806/NEWS03/708069928Mueller joined the Free State movement when members passed through Jackson, Wis., where he was living at the time. The Free State Project is an effort to relocate 20,000 libertarian-minded people to New Hampshire to engage in the local political process in hopes of creating communities where government involvement is limited.
Mueller and his supporters argue that a public official who is on duty and in a public space has no expectation of privacy, citing a 2011 First Circuit Court of Appeals ruling. Glik v. Cunniffe involved a man arrested after recording Boston police making an arrest on Boston Common in 2007. The ruling states that the First Amendment protects the right to record police in public.
Simon Glik was charged with illegal wiretapping, aiding the escape of a prisoner, and disturbing the peace. After a Boston Municipal Court judge dismissed the criminal charges, Glik filed a civil rights suit in federal court. August 06. 2012 8:42PM Protesters hand out leaflets during jury selection in CopBlock.org wiretapping case By PAT GROSSMITH http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120807/NEWS03/708079969Mueller is a member of the Free State Project, an effort to relocate 20,000 libertarian-minded people to New Hampshire to engage in the local political process in hopes of creating communities where government involvement is limited. Of course, the FSP doesn't have members. Additionally, the FSP isn't about engaging in the local political process. Nevertheless, I guess this is local coverage of the FSP.

A bit off topic: Is this an important distinction? The FSP website refers to "members" and "membership" in quite a few places... is that something we should be fixing as pages are reviewed/updated?

Membership is fine, IMO. If I see the would member somewhere and don't think it fits, I change it. There was a times, years ago, when the FSP had members.

Gerry seemed biased against liberty in the article. Many of the 90 or so people there were not free staters. Many of the most rude people were not free staters. Although, perhaps the rudest person there is 1 of the best known free staters. The prosecutor lied while he was presenting his case. The judge seemed to be very fair. Clearly, there is still room for reform in the NH justice system. Interestingly, Ademo was allowed (even encouraged?) to let the trial and sentencing last 3 days. He opted to finish it in 1 day. I don't know if it was because he cared about the environment, the audience's times, the jury's time, court cost, just wanted to get it over with or some other reason. August 13. 2012 4:32PM UPDATED: Mueller convicted of 3 charges of illegal wiretapping By GERRY MILES http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120813/NEWS03/708139898MANCHESTER - Surrounded by Free State supporters, Adam “Ademo” Meuller, 30, was found guilty of illegal wiretapping Monday and sentenced to three months in prison. Security in the courtroom Monday was heavy, with five bailiffs and three sheriffs present. During the trial, the Free Staters in the gallery made comments and often refused to stand for the judge, announcing Meuller’s entrance to the court with, “All rise for Ademo!” I don't know of anytime the judge or court workers ever asked anyone to rise for the judge. There is certainly no obligation to rise for a judge. Furthermore, it is not considered a sign of disrespect to many people, including Quakers, to not rise for a judge. Either way, the judge seemed to take zero issue with it. The way Gerry presented it, he seemed to be trying to claim their was controversy when none existed. I guess it is also possible that an editor did that. Either way, it shows biased reporting.

The bailiff said "all rise" almost every time the judge came in to actually start court (not if he was just "popping in"). But this Judge has previously stated in open court that he doesn't care if people rise for him or not. -Aahz
