Maine joined Michigan and RI in Pop. Loss in 2011
« on: May 04, 2012, 04:56:16 pm »

The 2011 estimates were released. While NH is still ~10,000 people short of passing Maine in residents, Maine is estimated to have become the third US State to have declining population. It joins Michigan and Rode Island.

Maine 2010 Pop.:  1,328,361
Maine 2011 Est.:   1,328,188

Of the 10 FSP candidate states, only VT gained less people in 2010 than NH.  ME didn't gain people, as was mentioned, it lost people.

Estimated population gain between 2010 and 2011 of the top 5 states in the FSP which state vote:
NH 1,724
WY 4,532
MT 8,784
ID 17,403
AK 12,487

Some people wanted to consider NV as a possible choice, even though the population is large.  NV is perhaps now the least desirable state in the US to live in as it was hit the hardest by the housing crisis, has near the highest unemployment and has near the highest crime.  Still, NV gained 22,771 people in 2010 and now has an estimated population of 2,723,322, over double the population of NH.

This certainly makes me happy we picked NH.  NH has slow growth but near the lowest unemployment rate in the US.  In fact, NH and neighboring VT have the 2 lowest state unemployment rates East of the Mississippi River.

I don't recall the exact numbers that I saw watching the counter. But, if I'm not mistaken, at least 10% of NH's 2010=>2011 growth was Free Staters moving in? No wonder we're having such a huge impact.

No, NH gained about 80,000 between 2000 and 2010.  There have not been 8000 movers.  About 1-2% of the increase has been Freestaters.

You're correct.  For some reason, I was reading that as "2000-2010," not "2010-2011."  2000-2010 is obviously a much larger number.

NEVADA?

The FSP was at one time considering Nevada??

SINCE Harry Reid got elected in 1987 !!!

FOR SHAME, folks!!

Please shake me and tell me it was just a nightmare.

Any state that would send undesirables such as Harry Reid to Washington as a U.S. Senator, has got to be worthy of our everlasting CONTEMPT.

Consider the damage that senator Harry Reid has done / is doing:

Got himself in as Senate majority leader.  Stonewalling efforts to audit the Fed this year.  Made racial slurs in public against black Americans, and against Hispanic Americans.  Wants to expedite U.S. citizenship for illegal immigrant teenagers.  Flip-flopped on marriage (not that it's a federal issue, anyway); currently favors gay "marriage." Repeatedly voted to increase / maintain our hostile meddling in other countries' affairs in the name of so-called national "defense."  Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Reid

Almost makes me ashamed to say in New Hampshire I'm part of the "United" States.  United to THAT??  If I ever drive cross-country, remind me to not go through Nevada.

...

currently favors gay "marriage."

So, he's not all bad, then.  Still a jerk, but he can get a few issues right, even if it's likely for the wrong reasons.

+1. Those two issues aren't ones that libertarians take issue with. Those are actually things we would support. Conservatives might not like it, but that's liberty for ya! Not always going to agree with others' rights, but you don't have to - you just have to be willing to defend their rights.

Does this study take into account growth from birth vs. growth from relocation?  FSP may have a bigger impact than we think, and if NH is growin slow/shrinking and FSPers are still moving in, all the better.

I still live in NY, and my friend is considering moving to CA.

I don't think you can move to a worse state from NY.

Can't say I'm much of a fan of our own senators here in the Granite State either.

Friends don't let friends move to California. I can't imagine any (sober) person wanting to move to California.

Hah! I actually can see why someone would want to move there. We must remember that there's a reason people (and lots of them) moved there in the first place, mostly having something to do with beautiful environment, vast natural resources, and (at one time) economic opportunity. As droves of people came so did businesses, and an established society can be an attractive prospect, both for social and economic reasons. When you think of it sans government, CA could be a wonderful place.

Of course, the ever-permeating malice of the State's every breath rots joy into sadness fills the whole land with a nauseating melancholy. Thus, it's not worth it to move out there anymore...
