Hey fellow activists, My name is Zaira, I am 16 and currently live with my father in Fremont,CA. We recently went to support the Bartholomew brothers from Good Men Do Something in their ridiculous trial and I really realized how screwed up California and government are. My dad has been an anarchist his entire life so we have had many many liberty centered conversations and debates. I listen to Free Talk Live, Ladies in Keene, and Flaming Freedom and consider myself a complete libertarian. This trial pushed me over the edge and told my dad I didn't want to stay here until I turned 18, I wanted to leave now. This all happened about a month ago and we now have plans to leave and move to Manchester in June. (Leave in late June, arrive in late July) So, it is time for me to be less of a listener and more of a participator. I really like starting projects and getting involved in ones that I find passion in, and I'm really looking forward to meeting new people that believe similar things as I do.

Hi, Zaira! It is pleasing to see youth like us so passionate about liberty! I am 25 and working on moving next year, but I don't live far from NH.
I personally recommend that you apply for a Summer job with-in a few weeks after moving. I think a year or two of work it is the best education any teen can get. It will help you get in touch with New England culture and if it is outdoor work New England climate. My first job was raking blueberries at 14, something you should do if you are not qualified to do anything else.

I wish I had an anarchist dad to bring me early I'm planning on using college as a way to get there ASAP (in another year or two). Congrats!

Thanks! Where would you recommend I look for a job once I get there? I've worked online the past couple years and don't really know where a teen can find jobs IRL.

You can find work in the service/hospitality industry and in July you will be mid-season for the summer work. The coast and lakes region get the bulk of the summer work but unemployment is really low in the rest of the state so shouldn't be much trouble if you end up somewhere else. Also to entirely disagree with Travis if you have some stuff online you already do which gets you money and looks like it might be a career path you enjoy then do that. You have years to decide what you want to do, focus on having fun and doing a job you enjoy rather than getting an IRL job because you feel you should Maybe come up for a visit during porcfest ( http://happyporcupine.info/), on the Tuesday there is a panel discussion for Keene, Manchester and Concord, Other folks have things going on on different days in a less formal setting and there will be people from all over the state to answer questions and people doing all sorts of jobs who can answer questions your dad might have about work/housing.

If you already make money online then you don't need another job. I was only suggesting you getting a job to help you get a feel for your New Neighbors. Being homeschooled I was out of touch with the local culture until I started working. I suspect the same is true of traditional students. Work opens us to spend long hours in conversation and make adequateness. It helps us to learn a lot. I learned that I hated my job.

Haha yeah it might be nice to get an agorist job for the social side and the income boost would be nice since moving across country is very detrimental to our wallets.

Cool. There are definitely some younger folks around. Mine are all much younger than you (the eldest is five), but my neighbor's daughter is either just under or just over sixteen. Not sure how political she is, but her parents are vocal Freestaters who moved here a few years ago and I've never heard them complain about her not getting it, so she's either liberty-minded or apolitical.

"An armed society is a polite society" - this does not mean that we are polite because we fear each other.
We are not civilized because we are armed; we are armed because we are civilized..

Just figured I'd add my "Hello" post on to Zaira's since I'm the anarchist Dad she referenced. Zaira already laid out our basic backgrounds. I had been planning to move to NH in a couple of more years, when she moved out of the house and was free from parental constraints (her mother lives relatively nearby here in California). She just moved up the time-frame on me after we saw the Bartholomew's convicted simply because they didn't immediately do what a police officer told them (at least that's why the jury said they convicted). We're currently looking for an apartment in Manchester. We've both spent the majority of our lives within a metropolitan area housing more than 2 million people, so figured the "big city" of 200k would be the least amount of culture shock -Aahz

We're on a 36 hour countdown until we hit the road for freedom at last! Gonna take anywhere from 2-4 weeks wandering the country a bit as we make our way to our new home in Manchester. Considering a tentavie arrival date of July 4th at the moment as we appreciate the symbolism -Aahz

Manchester has lots of stores and restaurant. I don't know if it has any amusement parks or camps. There is a ski area and another that is 35-45 minutes form Manchester.

I used to live in Fremont and the newark area. There are plenty of us from that area who are SICK of this state as well. I am in central california right now and while it isn't as bad as up there, it isn't much better either. NH will be our home to and glad to see others from the bay area showing up. Who knows maybe NH will be our new sunshine state

totally agree travis! I am right there with you. I wonder how many free tires, beer cans and bottles I could find on my way from Cali to N.H? Bring tow behind trailer with me and by the time I get there I could have ALL the material needed to get a couple earthships built ---- Back on topic I can't wait to hear how the trip went for you two going across the country together. That must be a blast for a father/daughter combo!
