A plain old drivers license? If you have a vaild license from another state, you do not have to take a test.

Depends upon exactly what you're looking for.  As far as I'm aware, any state that has a "Class A" license, uses that to refer to some sort of commercial classification.  However, the specifics and requirements vary from state to state.

NH has four classes.  A, B, and C are CDL classes.  D is a standard "operator" license, as used to drive ordinary cars, pickup trucks, and such.  (In Maine, for comparison, A and B are CDL, and C is operator)

It sounds like you can just transfer your out-of-state CDL using form DSMV312, but it's probably best to call the DMV's licensing division to be sure: (603)227-4020

Thanks guys. You were very helpful. I'm getting out of the military and going back home to MA. I will be attending truck driving school there and i think after a couple years of being around my mom and family again i'll make the move to NH. I will be up there for Porcfest.

I recently changed my CDL from NC to NH.  All I had to do was pass the vision and then give them the money and smile for the pic.  Be aware that FMCSA now requires you to have a current med card on file with the DMV, however that does not take full effect until 31 Jan 2014 if you are not driving for anyone.  I just wanted to keep my CDL.  I am now looking for a volunteer fire dept that has a tanker truck.  Just so you know, driving a truck over the road is not a job but a life style, not everyone can do it.  If you are looking to drive local, then that is a job. I have to go over the road for at least six months to get experience before i can get something local. At least thats what i hear. I understand it is a lifestyle. I think i could do it for a little while anyway. I am going to truck driving school in June and will have no experience. I mean im in the Air Force as an equipment operator and do drive tractor trailers but im not sure a company will count that as experience. I am getting out and moving back to MA for a year or two. I plan to move to NH eventually. Thats why i wanted to know about transfering the licsence. If i had to take the tests over again then id just go to school in NH and live up there right away and just visit my family on the weekends. Anyway i probably just confused the hell out of you lol. I'm very happy that all i have to do is the eye exam. Thanks.
