Questions about NH
« on: September 13, 2011, 11:53:03 pm »

Hey my name is Ryan, I am 20 years old and I live in Denver Colorado right now but I'm planning on moving to NH ASAP. A few questions I have:

-Are there a lot of call center jobs in NH?
-Are there other entry level jobs that pay decently?
-Are there any other people around my age in NH for the FSP?
-What is the nicest area to live in? I'm looking for somewhat low population maybe no less than 10,000 people that gives you all the big city advantages with the low population.

I am planning on moving to NH right around PorcFest '13 and I want to introduce my dad to these ideas(he's a neo-conservative) so I am trying to convince him to go to PorcFest '12 with me this summer.

Thanks!

-Ryan

There are call centers in NH.

Yes, there are decent paying entry level jobs in NH.

Yes, there are plenty of people around your age in NH including some FSPers.

The absolute nicest area to live in NH is Portsmouth NH and the near-by towns.

I recommend encouraging your dad to attend Liberty Forum 2012 instead of Porcfest 2012.  Liberty Forum is a much more calm event and your dad will likely enjoy it more unless you think he just wants to spend all of his time at the event by himself.  In that case, they are both good events.  Well, they are both good events regardless Smiley

Ryan,

Yes, there are plenty of call center jobs in NH - customer service, sales and collections.  Typically they are often hiring.

No, you won't have any problem finding other liberty minded people your age.

I'm going to recommend that you listen to LoveandPeace and not make Porcfest the first entree for your neoconservative Dad to the FSP.  It's a wonderful event, but it might be a little much for a first event for your Dad.  If you can't make a specific event, perhaps just a trip to visit the state?  Post your dates and there will probably be some meet-up or another you could go to that might be a more gentle introduction for your Dad.  (and still fun for you)

Yep, bring him to Liberty Forum 2012 instead of Porcfest 2012.

Hey my name is Ryan, I am 20 years old and I live in Denver Colorado right now but I'm planning on moving to NH ASAP.

Awesome, & welcome! Smiley I recently moved from CA.

A few questions I have:

-Are there a lot of call center jobs in NH?

82, according to indeed: http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=%22call+center%22&l=NH

-Are there other entry level jobs that pay decently?

Lots

-Are there any other people around my age in NH for the FSP?

Many -- and even more in the 25-35 range.

-What is the nicest area to live in? I'm looking for somewhat low population maybe no less than 10,000 people that gives you all the big city advantages with the low population.

Here's a list of NH cities and towns by population: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Hampshire_communities_by_population

I wouldn't recommend Berlin, from what I hear. Other than that, these are all nice towns as far as I know. Portsmouth area would certainly be a top recommendation. Keene's a nice area too. Nashua and Manch are relatively more bigcityish. Anywhere in the southern part of the state is within an hour or two of boston, if you need a real big city fix (nashua and seabrook are more like 45mins, if no traffic).

I'd recommend visiting different places, to see what you like. Also, you might want to leave your options somewhat open, to see where you find a good job.

I am planning on moving to NH right around PorcFest '13 and I want to introduce my dad to these ideas(he's a neo-conservative) so I am trying to convince him to go to PorcFest '12 with me this summer.

I'd also recommend Liberty Forum for your dad. It's more of a "hotel convention" style event, with speakers on various different topics. PorcFest certainly has speaking events, but I'd say it's got more of a camping/festival atmosphere -- lots of food vendors, social events, concerts, some partying, etc.

Of course, the drawback is that Liberty Forum is in February, while Porcfest is in June.
