Banking, Utilities, and other services
« on: August 30, 2011, 12:39:34 pm »

I am trying to find out what services and more specifically what companies are available in NH. I'd like to open a new banking account here in OH that is also well established in NH. That way I have easy access in person to the account in both places.

I understand that AT&T is not available in NH so I can't just transfer my account there.

Can someone connect me with a good site for all businesses and utilities so I can determine now whom I will doing business with upon the move?

I probably will be first locating in the Concord area. Thanks for you input.

Wired phones are handled by Fairpoint Communications, but my AT&T cellphone works fine here in southern tropical Grafton.

Big banks that have a presence in NH are Citizens Bank, Bank of America, and TD Bank.

Of the three, I would strongly recommend TD Bank.  Citizen's is okay, but less convenient.  BoA is pretty strongly anti-liberty.

PSNH is the power company in most areas.  Comcast if the biggest cable provider.  but there are other depending on where you are:Adelphia, Metrocast,Time Warner.  Fairpoint is the biggest telephone provider (since Verizon sold out to them to dump their low performing assets) but not the only one. PSNH, Comcast and Fairpoint are the most probable companies you will have to deal with.
Other's already covered the bank well enough I think.

I had sprint for my cell phone and it never worked in Hancock without their mini cell tower thing being hooked up in my dining room. I remember not getting service on that phone in Grafton when I was there before.

Thanks Vince. That helps narrow it down to two banks:  Laconia Savings Bank, and TD Bank

Actually, that list is rather incomplete.  There are a lot of local banks which don't appear.  Mascoma Savings Bank, just for one example (I happen to drive past them regularly, and the town that branch is in, isn't even on that list).
