Operation Politically Homeless?
« on: August 23, 2011, 06:44:08 am »

Is anyone in NH still doing OPH outreach? When I search this forum, it doesn't even come up until it gets back to like '06-07.

I want to do some OPH, after I arrive Sep 16, but I'd rather my first couple of times be with people who have experience doing it.

For anyone who doesn't know, it involves a booth or table where you give people The World's Smallest Political Quiz, which has 10 questions on both economic and social issues, then you put a sticker on your giant Nolan chart to show if they're Conservative, Liberal, Authoritarian, Centrist, or Libertarian. Many people find out they're a libertarian, and you direct them to a second table where questions and answers about libertarianism are done. The idea is just to keep the quiz table for the quiz. Even people in the other 4 regions have fun taking the quiz, which helps create goodwill between those of differing political views.

This could be done with the second table recommended being an FSP table. We definitely need to find more pro-liberty people in NH, maybe through other organizations in NH, such as NHLA or the various issue-specific groups, or maybe the Ron Paul support organizations, but as far as FSP recruiting goes, it could be very productive in other nearby states. I suggest nearby states because it's recommended to have an action or event for the newly-discovered libertarians to participate in, preferably within a week, and we could invite them to some event in NH.

I am thinking it would be best to have at least 4 people to run the 2 tables, though you could probably do it with 3. Any fewer, and the people are stuck at their tables.

Is anyone else interested in doing this? There probably isn't time to set it up this year, but we could plan to do it at MassCann next year.

I forgot to post the link. The Advocates for Self-Government have an online version of the Quiz, as well as selling kits for OPH as well as providing other info, including OPH instructions. Their website is http://www.theadvocates.org/.

I've got an OPH kit. Usually the Mass LP already has an OPH going at the event, so I don't bring it to MassCann. It's great for in-state outreach though. We've done it at various festivals (FK, Market Days, NHLA table at Deerfield Fair, etc). If anyone is attending an in-state festival and needs an OPH kit to borrow for the day, shoot me an email

Cool - I was going to mention the LP connection.

It's just that I don't see anyone post about their plans with it or even that they did it. I guess the forums are not that representative of what goes on there.

THIS THIS THIS

What you see online -- no matter how much you read the forums, Facebook, blogs, radio shows, TV shows, etc, etc,.... try as we might, nothing really gives a decent flavor for what's actually going on here.

Ok, I said that, and I understand it, but I still think it would be a good idea to have some kind of online coordination or recording of all the OPH outreach, and results / statistics,  in NH and that done by FSP - type people in nearby states. Maybe I'll start NHOPH.org after I get out there.
