So, it's your position that no new corridors would be needed - ever. Come on. Well, since I've given a number of examples, perhaps you could give us some examples of why new corridors would need to be created, rather than simply improving the carrying-capacity of existing corridors? Joe Major backbones are used to connect high traffic areas. High traffic corresponds with high population. As the population increases, new high population centers will arise. To meet the demands of these new areas, more backbones will need to be laid. On a smaller scale, as rural areas become larger, the shunts that service the area will need to be increased. In many cases, these must be established in the first place. I recommend this broad primer on internet infrastructure: http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/faculty/greenstein/images/htm/Research/articles/geography.pdf

The link exists, already. If the demand for power/bandwidth/whatever increases, we upgrade the wires/fiber/whatever running along the existing corridor. Why would new corridors need to be created? "An armed society is a polite society" - this does not mean that we are polite because we fear each other.
We are not civilized because we are armed; we are armed because we are civilized..

This whole discussion about a would-be free market society living off the organizational accomplishments of the governments that preceded it makes me sick! This transition would take multiple decades, and science will not stand still and wait in the meantime! The upcoming technological accomplishments, accelerated by the free market, would make all of the current infrastructure about as relevant as the Indian hunting trails have been to the construction of Interstate highways! Who needs roads when you can fly your 4-bedroom RV half-way across the planet for the weekend? Who needs power lines when the average home can generate >100% of its required energy capacity? Who needs coaxial weeds when petabit cell/satellite is cheap as air, and every chair or tree has an IP address? Please re-read post where I allegedly give carte blanche to anyone to do anything. |
That might not have been your intention, but intentions are irrelevant.

Free not to engage.
Advocating the myth of progress. Who needs coaxial weeds when petabit cell/satellite is cheap as air, and every chair or tree has an IP address?
These technologies are limited by the speed of light and therefore it is IMPOSSIBLE to be faster than surface communication. Please re-read post where I allegedly give carte blanche to anyone to do anything. |
That might not have been your intention, but intentions are irrelevant. This doesn't seem to follow.
