Here's the story.
I'm a foreclosure defense lawyer. Because I'm self-employed, I don't qualify for a mortgage in Pennsylvania due to legislation (anyone see the irony yet?).
Is it very difficult to obtain a mortgage as a self-employed lawyer. I don't expect it would take long to get a practice rolling up there while I have an associate run the Allentown branch.
Thanks,
Jim

I've seen a number of lawyers get mortgages up here, so I expect it might be easier in NH, than it was in PA?
Small banks and credit unions may be more flexible. When my brother was finishing up dental school, he talked a small bank into giving him a mortgage, based upon his anticipated future income, and not requiring him to make any payments for the first year. If you can demonstrate for them that you are likely to be able to pay based upon the market for your services, there's a pretty good chance you'll be able to talk a bank into taking a risk. Might not get the world's best terms, but you can refinance after a few years, when you have an established practice and verifiable income.

Mortgages have gotten tougher in the last couple years. If you have a decent income history over that last few years you should be ok. I could put you in touch with the Gal how does much of my financing if you like. She's good and could certainly let you know were you stand. IM me if you would like her contact information.

I am willing to help get your practice established up here if you don't mind the weekly commute (or however you chose to divide things up). I can introduce you to some people in my area who are working in the same field. I can also introduce you to other attorneys, and what not.

We're in need of volunteers to help out with Freedom Expo. PM one of the organizers (like me) if you'd like to help. "The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property." Freedom Expo is at Trinity Parish House, Seabrook, April 27, 2013! (right next to the Post Office)

We have the same legislation here (passed in 2009). It's federally mandated (or else the state loses Housing & Urban Development funding). Seller-financed mortgages are drying up. The bar here is pretty upset about it.
