Attention Austro-libertarians: Mises Academy

http://academy.mises.org/

The first course at the brand new online Mises academy starts on April 12th. Its a 9 week course on Austrian Business Cycle Theory, and costs $255.  There are no prerequisites, you do not need to know any math or economics prior to taking the course.  I think the plan is to eventually have a lot more courses that deal with more than just economics, but it would make sense for the first course to be on ABCT.

New Course starting July 5th.  Taught by Thomas DiLorenzo, author of  The Real Lincoln, Hamilton's Curse, How Capitalism Saved America, and Lincoln Unmasked.

The name of the course is The Road to Serfdom: Despotism Then and Now

To register:  http://academy.mises.org/courses/the-road-to-serfdom-then-and-now/

article about the course:  http://mises.org/daily/4524

The normal price for courses seems to be $255 for 7-8 weeks, but this course is only $175, and only lasts 5 weeks. If you were planning on reading The Road to Serfdom, but haven't gotten around to it yet, this is the perfect opportunity.  Each week we are going to read 3 chapters plus various supplemental articles, listen to a lecture, discuss the ideas on the academy forums, and (I believe) there will be weekly office hours as well.

Classes are live on Mondays at 7pm  eastern  45 min lecture  followed by 45 min Q & A.  But everything is recorded and posted on the internet in case Monday's at 7pm are a bad time.

The Fall Lineup is absolutely stacked:    http://academy.mises.org/courses/

The Economics of Private Legal and Defense Services  - Bob Murphy

COST: $150
LENGTH: 4 WEEKS
DATES: AUGUST 24, 2010 - SEPTEMBER 20, 2010

http://academy.mises.org/courses/the-economics-of-private-legal-and-defense-services/

I had Bob Murphy for my ABCT class, he is an excellent teacher

The New Deal: History, Economics and Law   -  Tom Woods
COST: $250
LENGTH: 7 WEEKS
DATES: SEPTEMBER 6, 2010 - OCTOBER 22, 2010

http://academy.mises.org/courses/the-new-deal-history-economics-and-law/

Tom Woods is an absolute superstar of libertarian writing at the moment.  Writes books all the time, he is an anarchist that can talk like a Constitutionalist

Principles of Economics  -   Robert Murphy
COST: $250
LENGTH: TEN WEEKS
DATES: SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 - NOVEMBER 19, 2010
http://academy.mises.org/courses/principles-of-economics/

Again Bob is great,  this is the ideal class to really get an excellent and full grasp of the very basics of economics.  Without a solid foundation, you can't really understand anything else imo.  A lot of this stuff is just regular micro-economics and not Austrian per se, in case you have fundamental disagreements w/ the Austrian school but still want to learn about into econ stuff, which I guess would be strange.  But I could see the appeal to people who would want to learn the basics and be able to talk econ with people and having even mainstream econ people know what your talking about mostly.

Freedom Versus Authority: Europe 1789-1945 - David Gordon
COST: $255
LENGTH: 9 WEEKS
DATES: SEPTEMBER 16, 2010 - NOVEMBER 11, 2010
http://academy.mises.org/courses/freedom-versus-authority-europe-1789-1945/

The Political Economy of War - Thomas J. DiLorenzo
COST: $260
LENGTH: 10 WEEKS
DATES: SEPTEMBER 20, 2010 - NOVEMBER 24, 2010
http://academy.mises.org/courses/the-economics-of-war/

I am currently in DiLorenzo's Road to Serfdom class, I like it, but not as much as Bob Murphy's class.  I think a lot of it has to do with that I didn't realize how much of a state apologist Hayek was.  He was making arguments in favor of welfare and all kinds of stuff.
