got a new job today :(
« on: December 11, 2009, 08:56:38 pm »

I just started a new job today.  The pay isn't the best but the benefits are very good.  But the problem is the statist mentality.  I had several years experience in a residential facility before this (teenagers adjudicated by the state) but this place takes the cake.  If it were any more strict it would be a jail.  Basically the overarching theme of the facility is "don't cause problems or any progress you make will be slammed back down to zero.

I was planning on being at this job until I could make the transition to NH permanently, that way I could save up money and take care of a few more things, but if I can find anything that is good enough to get me situated in NH when I come up the 24th, I'd be so much happier.

Actually there's a residential facility in Stewartstown NH, called Eckerd, a wilderness camp.  I applied at it about 2 months ago and never heard back, even after emailing and calling them.

And there's one in Plymouth called Mount Prospect Academy.

Both of them are suppose to be pretty therapeutic and more relationship oriented with the kids from what I've researched.  Does anybody know anybody connected to either of these?  I'd LOVE to work in the wildnerness camp.

I don't know about either of them but a wilderness camp sounds like an 8 week job or something.

LOL Tongue

No actually it's a hardcore job.  5 days a week 16 hours a day, out in the woods with a bunch of teenagers that need counseling and help, hiking, building things splitting wood, etc

My idea of a paradise!

Oh yeah, it's a year round job.  It's still a statist type job, the kids are forced to be there and many of them have taken drugs or not gone to school, which of course are not a crime to me to begin with.  But at least it would be a job, and much more therapeutic (cabins in the woods, outdoors all day etc) The place I started working yesterday the kids are all like a bunch of robots.

The wilderness camp just posted a job listing again yesterday!  I'll probably try to email them again and call again monday.  It's in the northern part of NH.
