Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself, I hope this is the proper forum... My name is Jay, I'm a 26 year old former Marine and a proud Texan. I have been interested in the free state project for almost a year now, but until recently I didn't have the courage to ask my Mexican/Italian fiance what she thought about selling our house and moving across the country. I only mention her racial heritage as a light hearted hint at her natural temperament which is not exactly mild. In any case, the economy is in the can, she is getting sick of her job, and there just isn't much of an alternative for her here, not to mention, Round Rock (our home town,) is one of the few places left in this country that is still a seller's market for real estate. My lady started talking about moving somewhere new and just “starting over.” I grew a pair, held my breath, puckered the old starfish and blurted out my desire to move to New Hampshire. To my surprise, the little woman was all for it, even enthusiastic about it. Long story short, we plan to move next summer. Look out New Hampshire, you got two more Free Staters on the way.

"No nation however powerful, any more than an individual, can be unjust with impunity. Sooner or later, public opinion, an instrument merely moral in the beginning, will find occasion physically to inflict its sentences on the unjust... The lesson is useful to the weak as well as the strong." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1804.
"It is the trade of lawyers to question everything, yield nothing, and talk by the hour." - Thomas Jefferson
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
Thomas Jefferson

That's great! I hope you've signed the statement of intent. When the move date gets closer and you've nailed down where you're landing, post so that we can help you move in and get to know you. Before you make the move, consider coming up for PorcFest or the Liberty Forum. It's a great way to see the state and meet the porcupines. I liked going to PorcFest because I found people like me in the project and that made me more sure I wanted to move.

what did she like about the idea?
Well, while my fiance is very pro-liberty, the idea of moving somewhere new and different is what is most appealing to her. She has lived in Texas all here life and wants to experience four seasons instead of two.
