FSP, Political Noob
« on: August 19, 2009, 10:56:14 am »

Hello, hello to everyone in the FSP. Smiley

I've mostly grown up not giving a damn about politics, and just until recently (a few months short of a year) I viewed myself as a Democrat because that's what my parents are, and it seemed some of my views coincided with the Democratic Party's views, but just not quite. Enter my boyfriend who has been interested in politics, anti-governmentism, Libertarianism, and the FSP for a few years now. I had previously known about the Libertarian Party very vaguely, but I had never really read anything about it because again, I didn't give a crap about politics before. Now I know that because my views pretty much fit the Libertarian Party's views to a T, I am happy to say that I've found my political "calling," so to speak, and with my exposure to the FSP and what it's all about, I am very proud to say that I absolutely support everything that the FSP stands for, and I am willing to fight for liberty in our lifetime.

I have officially been a member of the FSP for two months and two days now.

I was surprised and happy to get a welcome letter from the FSP yesterday in the mail. My mom looked you guys up online, and now she's very interested in the organization. However, she raised a question. I know you guys are a non-profit organization, but she was wondering if you're a registered non-profit organization? I've tried researching it to no avail. Perhaps the question is silly, since the FSP is anti-government, and why should anyone have to ask the government for permission for anything. I, personally, would donate money to you guys regardless of whether you're registered. But in any case, I hope someone can answer my question.

And of course, if anyone is curious, I'm currently living in Georgia. I do plan on moving to New Hampshire as soon as I graduate from college, which I'm hoping will be in the next year-and-a-half. (I can't believe I'm going to get to experience REAL winters with SNOW and stuff. I am seriously excited.)

(As a slightly unrelated note, can anyone give me any advice for driving from Georgia to NH? Much appreciated.)

Have traveled north and south many times.

Take I85 to Charlotte, NC.
Take I77 north into VA
Take I81 north into PA
Take I84 East to MA
Take I90 east
Take 495 north
Take 3, Everett Turnpike north into NH

then you are home!

I have done it a bunch of ways and don't always do it this way, but the most important direction to remember is DON'T TAKE I95 THROUGH WASHINGTON, BALTIMORE, NYC, AND BOSTON!!!

Thank you so much. I've been stressing about driving this far ever since I decided to move to NH. I know I'm capable of getting there in one piece, but it's still a bit nerve-wracking. lol

Additionally, I'd heard about there being speedtraps and the like through certain Northern states, so I'd wanted to know which routes were the best way to go.

Sorry, I can't help on speed traps and such. I have reached an age where stress is happily avoided by not speeding. In fact, I make lots of stops and really enjoy long drives. Smell the roses or get off the interstate. Now, if you asked which state has better rest stops, I probably could tell you.

If you haven't taken a lot of long drives, I will tell you the obvious. Have good maps. Even if you have gps and yahoo directions or whatever. A good map can get you past a lot of difficult situations.

For all of you NOT from the New England area....

They have unmarked Crusiers.  Beware.

When I was stationed in Groton, CT and would commonly make trips on leave back to Ohio I was driving a late model Crown Vic and could not for the life of me understand why traffic was always so slow around me until I discovered this fact.

NJ is the worst state for speed traps, according to an msn study I read. Just avoid the state, you shouldn't need to enter it.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I'm certainly not used to long drives. The furthest I've driven is to the University of West Georgia, and I live about an hour north of Atlanta, and I thought that was a long drive. lol So I guess I'll end up taking many breaks on my drive up to NH. As for the speedtrap stuff, I just don't want to get pulled over doing something like five above. (Apparently one state is known to be a bit hilly? I don't remember which one it was.) I guess maybe I should be more careful in unfamiliar places anyhow.

Oh, no need to apologize. I wasn't expecting it, really. Or maybe I skimmed over that part. But it was a nice surprise, nonetheless. It made me feel like I was actually a part of something, and somebody cared that I was a part of that something. (Even if the message was automated. Still, somebody had to put that into an envelope and put the stickers on the envelope.) Yay. Cheesy

And I'm happy to hear that there are other Georgians. Calling other Georgians. Tell me about your experiences with the move and stuff!
